Bottled, from Landbierparadies, Nuremberg. Clear deep amber, creamy head. Fruity, bready nose. Mid sweet with medium body and well rounded head. Some caramel, lots of bread and grass. Mid bitter finish.

TAR (2494) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - MAY 8, 2014
Bottle consumed on Nov. 2012, best by Mar. 2013: Brownish with golden hues. Creamy halo surrounds a broken cap of foam. Pleasant aromas of browned biscuit (Munich), black pepper, licorice hoppiness, slightly burnt toffee and spruce tips. Mild fruitiness, also. Soft and snug carbonation. Thinnish body. Waxy character combines with a distant fruitiness and browned biscuit edge. Unchecked fruitcake and candied cassis obscure the richer malt textures and deter them from latching onto the tongue, thus rendering the body thinner than desired. Some toasty malt and caramelized sweetness would help. Nice and polished spruce and wood-root-spice hoppiness fills in the center, as does a splash of ripe plum juiciness. Fruity finish features an edge of plum along with a fleeting tandem of fallen leaves and breadcrust. A decent and mostly clean example, if a bit ordinary overall, quiet in the nose and lacking malt depth. Maybe a tad on the fruity side of the spectrum, too. I’m thinking a visit to this brewery is in order since it appears that very few people have reviewed anything fresh from the source, and we all know how Franconian bottles tend to be such a crapshoot, even when super fresh.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkelbraunes Bier mit geringer aber schönen Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht röstmalzig, Karamell, minimal würzig. Geschmack angenehm röstmalzig, würzig, gering schokoladig.

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, darker than exspected, nice head. Starts mild, malty, with hints of caramel. Not too dry, modest sweetish. Well balanced finish. Not bad!

Idiosynkrasie (3804) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - NOV 17, 2013
500ml bottle. Clear dark copperish brown colour with average, fluffy, diminishing, minimally lacing, off-white head. Grainy, strawy aroma with a very cautious chocolate note in the background. Taste is caramel malty, minimally chocolately, minimally strawy, minimally soapy hoppy.

(bottle) pours a clear deep amber colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of grainy pale malts, green apples, treebark and lemons, with a hint of earth and light dark chocolate. flavour is mostly the same, slightly sweet, with dominant notes of grainy roasted malts, more treebark, bratwurst spices, light honey and a leafy finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

Ernest (6218) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted bread/nuts), trace hops (herbs), with notes of compost (coffee grounds, banana peels, dirt, etc.) and dog hair. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Kinda funky nose that most reminds me of a compost pile and wet dog. Not quite as yucky as that sounds, but still weird and certainly not enticing. Very thin and bland in the mouth. Meh.

Shaney (2428) - Köln / Cologne, GERMANY - FEB 25, 2013
Dunkelbraunes Landbier mit weißem Schaum. Sehr nussiges Aroma. Im Geschmack brotig-nussig mit leichter Karamellnote. Nicht unbedingt mein Geschmack, da der Malzkörper unterdimensioniert ist, aber aufgrund der Leichtigkeit durchaus süffig geraten.

Quack-Duck (7911) - Down South, GERMANY - FEB 14, 2013
bottle from MoritzF! Brown colour, mid-sized off-white head. Shy malty base with a touch of caramel, low sweetness, quite dry. Hints of barnyard in the lingering finish.
