Re-rate: Orange brown color, cloudy. Is my nose functioning? I can only smell a bit of malt and caramel. Malty flavor with peach. Hints of licorice and butter. Almost sweet. Hmmm, like this beer.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 pivnizub (8046) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - SEP 17, 2005
Bottle (bought at the brewery): Pours brown with a thin, firm, lacing head, hazy; very shy malty nose, traces of milk-chocolate with sourish overtones; very slight, a bit sweetish-malty taste; low carbonated and light bodied; sourish/skunky aftertaste. NO GOOD ! Possibly infected; ’cause this skunky-sourish taste is very unusual for a rural franconian brewery. It’s a pity.........
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 MoritzF (7835) - Bochum, GERMANY - NOV 20, 2012
(bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a big and slightly tanned foamy head. Mildly toasted malty and doughy aroma with notes of caramel, shy bready accents and grassy hops. Moderately sweet flavour with hints of sour dough, rather light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly toasted cara-malty taste, again slightly doughy with grassy and slightly herbal hops in the background; dry and mildly bitter hoppy finish with a tinge of toasted malt. Not the best Dunkel on the planet. 13.XI.12
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MesandSim (7118) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 29, 2010
A Mes rate. Bottle thanks to Chris. Clean copper colour with a thinish white head. Musty, slight card, good fruity malt and a slight sourness. Rather basic but ok.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (7063) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 15, 2013
bottle in novermber 2012, best by date march 2013. clear amber body with a rocky tan-colored head. wonderfully comforting toasted nut-focused nose with layers of nul oils, bread crust, almond and creame pastries and pie crust. as lively as the nose is, the flavor is much quieter. lightly pasty yeast texture, lightly acidic, crunchy and toasty malt, it’s delicious but lack the richness of malt body seen so often in Franconia. still, it’s full enough in the mouth and the soft and creamy carbonation saves it, though it is noticeably watery in the finish and some mild metallic notes make a momentary appearance. it just smells incredible - dark malt nut oil and toasty pleasure.

Red-orange and clear with stable off-white head. Aroma is bready, mild, and fruity. The palate and flavors have some unfortunate butter but nice metallic notes.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ernest (5645) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Bottle.
Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is clear medium amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted bread/nuts), trace hops (herbs), with notes of compost (coffee grounds, banana peels, dirt, etc.) and dog hair.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Kinda funky nose that most reminds me of a compost pile and wet dog. Not quite as yucky as that sounds, but still weird and certainly not enticing. Very thin and bland in the mouth. Meh.
