| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2008 Updated: Sep 7, 2008 12 oz. twist-cap bottle, coded freshness date (111008-B50810) on the neck, sampled in a lager glass. The media propaganda reports I’ve seen for the re-release of the 60’s formula list the ABV as 4.7% and call it a "true pilsener." I have to admit that I like the "classic, cool retro" look of the bottle labels and the new signs, nice simple pieces of commercial marketing spiel.
L: Poured a crystal clear pale golden yellow with a robust bubbly topped white head that slowly sank into a sudsy skim. Light amounts of spotty soapy lace clings to sides of the glass. Everything about this, from active micro bubbly carbonation, the sunshiny yellow color, and the frothy white head, says Schlitz 60’s Formula is pretty close to exceptional for the Macro Lager style.
S: Lemony butter, hints of corn and cracker-like pale malts are the smells upfront, followed by the lightest traces of floral herbs. Clean, unpretentious nose, very much in keeping for the style.
F: Fluffily light bodied, ending on a smoothly crisp note, a softly firm feel in the palate from the lively, but not fizzy, carbonation. I think this as good as an mouthfeel one could expect from a Macro Lager, no need for any improvement.
T: Schlitz 60’s Formula is a Macro Lager, so of course, its going to have a thin malt taste. Maize flakes and dry saltine crackers, midway through comes the lemony butter flavor, but what most surprised me about this was the hops. Towards the end a delicate herbal hoppiness quietly emerges, before finishing with a cleansing prickly spiciness. A good spiciness, not the dull taste of drab, used up hops.
D: Schlitz 60’s Formula was much better than I was expecting. This is a good Macro Lager for lawn mowing, hot summer days, or when you just want a light refreshing beer.

Aroma of corn, sweetness, and malt. Taste of malt, sweetness, and light hops. This light bodied brew is not bad and would be a decent lawnmower beer. I was expecting worse and was a little bit surprised. SoLan (1427), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 15, 2009 Bottle. Basic lager. Easy drinking. Grainy and mildly bitter. A touch of malt sweetness. Decent if you’re in the mood for a macro lager. mallons72 (19), livonia, Michigan, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Oct 17, 2009 Not too bad. I never had the 70’s through early 2000’s version, so I’m not sure if this is much better. Drinkable for sure. vomit (65), USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 7, 2009 Oh heavenly joy! Oh, wondrous rapture! Oh, lovely lager!!! This reformulated junk has cracked my top 5 beer list! For merriment, mirth & mayhem, one could do a lot worse than Shlitz! This stuff is da Bomb! The big Three (Blatz, Pabst & Schlitz) are poised for a remarkable comeback that will be spoken of in awed tones for centuries to come. That’s right. Pabst brewing (which owns all three) is now THE LARGEST American-owned brewery. All they need is the right push and all the dominos will fall into place. Don’t question it. Soon Blatz will take its rightful place at the top of the American brewing pyramid, and the others will follow.
I predict by 2012, Budweiser, Coors Miller and Sam Adams will be closing their doors, and the Pabst factory will be the biggest & most successful brewery in the world. How can they not, if they reintroduce such a bitchin’ retro-white trash gem like this??

Defintely better than BMC macro swill, but still macro swill nonetheless. Kind of tastes like Michelob to my novice palate. JAF737300 (805), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 20, 2009 I actually like the new old formula offering. It pours deep golden with a nice amount of malt on the nose and a deep malty presence in the mouthfeel. The finish show some nice body and the proof that they did try and make this into a real beer! 17thfloor (1524), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Sep 8, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a clear light yellow slightly golden with a thinner frothy sudsy white head 2.5. Aroma is pretty standard macro-lager, corny, sweet, some light hops, a sweet miller light seemingly. Flavor is dull and soapy, fairly soft, slightly on the sweeter side, some red-apple like juiciness, apple-skin bitterness. Long red food-coloring like bitterness in the aftertaste. Med/light bodied, soft and fluffy with soft sizzling carbonation. I think I like the Old Style retro better. This is fairly drinkable though. radagast83 (1317), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

Nothing really stands out about it, but just the fact that it’s the "classic formula" from Schlitz, I find myself getting more upset about how much they screwed up. The number one beer for years (decades) screwed up, and was replaced with something only marginally better than the Frankenstein concoction that the suits had come up with that ultimately destroyed their market share.
