Since 2001, contract-brewed for Pabst Brewing (San Antonio), as Pabst no longer owns a brewery of its own. Brewed in Wisconsin for export to Canada. The "Genuine Gold" brand is not available in the U.S. but it closely resembles the Schlitz Genuine Draft can sold in select U.S. markets. Closely resembles Canadian lagers, a little sweeter and higher octane than typical U.S. lagers, but not by much. Low hops, some malty sweetness but adjuncts are noticeably present.

corn brew with some malt in there. light start and a bit bready then smooths out with that light butterscotch taste used as a gimmick in the modern world.

pours clear very pale yellow with low (but present) white head, little retention. corn, adjuncts, herbal blandness. average carbonation, light body - watery, very short and corny finish. drain pour - thought this would have been my malt liquor tick - wasn’t. oh well.

Flavourless and quite nasty. NOt much to tell about it but some goldy character and foam.

Another milestone. Schlitz rates me for the big G: This one comes in a cheap Value Village shirt with badly matched shoes and an uneven shave. Straight from the beginning, it’s clear that solidfunk has absolutely no respect for me. Pouring me into a glass he didn’t bother to clean of the despicable taste of some horribly dark dunkler bock. Raising an eyebrow at the lack of head I so thoughtfully provided. Twitching his nose at the preservative chemicals I’m so lovingly laced with. Gagging at the first sip of sour malt-liquor like deliciousness that I painted the walls of his throat with. It’s just for that reason that I intend to leave my special aroma floating through his digestive system and polluting the drain of his sink after he pours me out in disgust.

Originally rated May 2005. Full golden colour with some decent lace. Average carbonation with some malt scent and alcohol found in the aroma. The taste is malt with hints of apple, which give this brew a nice aftertaste. Other then the aroma, the rest I think is decent for a swill lager.

Canette 355ml.

355 ml can from LCBO. Pours a clear yellow/gold with nearly instantly disappearing white head. Smells, honest to goodness like cheap perfume. Taste is sweet with corn and artificial apple but blessedly mellow. Zero finish. Swill.

[3509-20101205] 355mL can. Cooked peas and corn oil and generic yeast aroma. Clear, pale yellow body with a big long-lasting foamy white head. Plastic corn yeast flavour has light hints of smoke in the aftertaste. Light body. Surprisingly drinkable but very boring.

can. Poured clear, very pale straw coloured with big white head that lasted 4 minutes. Sweet grainy apple aroma. Bland mouthfeel. Mild malt flavours, low hops. Stale aftertaste.

Can. Yellow/light gold. Unflattering aromas of boiled white rice, confectionary sugar and mild hop. Gentle, mild-mannered palate encourages a “goes down easy” brand positioning. No memorable flavour qualities aside from the fact this is almost bend-over-backward innocent and flavour-neutral. A brainless blond.
