j_b (735), Rochester, New York, USA Feb 22, 2008 Very excited to see this at my local store. Color is interesting, dark brownish black with red highlights. Thick head that quickly dissipates. Very nice aroma of coffee, raisins, cinnamon. Palate has a tiny off taste, maybe this is an old sample. Kind’ve an iron can taste. Also in there is a bit of hops, sweetness though the overall palate is a bit watery. Alcohol is well hidden. Palate improves as it warms, smooths out. Nice.
Skinnyviking (2624), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 27, 2008 Bottle. Medium high creamy and lasting off-white head. Clear dark red brown body. Malty caramel aroma with clear alcohol notes. Roasted malt flavor with plums raisings and caramel but no sighn of the alcohol. Quite vineous. Low carbonation. Long aftertaste. willblake (1930), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Aug 21, 2008 20080821 33cl bottle from Capone’s. Deep mahogany pour beneath a thin film of beige head. Aroma is a touch roasty, a bit smoky, wee earthy, ripe with prunes, fig pudding, chocolate cake. Flavor is sweet, caramelized goodness with more fig and prune than I can shake a stick at. Ignores any possibility of cloying, although the beer seems primed for it. In fact a fuller body might be welcome but not at the expense of this lovely hop and roast astringency. The finish is more earthiness, savory, and quick. Nice stuff. glennmastrange (394), hobe sound, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle. Moderate dark bread and toasted for the malts, very light herbs for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with raisin, allspice and barbeque sauce in the background. Head is fizzy, off-white, with no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, watery, almost oily, and has a lively carbonation. The BBQ aspect of this Dopplebock is quite unique. fonefan (4333), Ulfborg, Denmark Aug 13, 2008 Bottle 33cl @ [ Tasting by Maria ]. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, dark bread, berry, young vintage, brown sugar - candis, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. (060608) tedovertu (105), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Aug 9, 2008 Mild molasses and caramel flavor.
