| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 17, 2006 Pours a transparent deep golden with a thin white head. Has a sweet full caramel and peaty malty aroma with a touch of noble hops. Starts with a semi-sweet, somewhat full malty flavor thinning some toward the mildly smoked finish. Seems like a confused mix between a strong German lager and a Scotch ale. Still an interesting brew. HogTownHarry (3993), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 1, 2006 Bottle (330ml). Poured clear light gold with a hint of amber, small white fizzy head. Very odd aroma, oily sweet (honey), hint of soy sauce and light whiskey, vaguely smoke-like. Taste is honey, toasty grain, alochol harshness, mild burnt caramel malt, fruity and candyish on warming. Mouthfeel is a bit harsh, syrupy, flat and watery. The smoke nature of this is very muted, I get more booze than smoke in it - if it weren’t so watery this would be pretty nice. drpimento (815), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2005 Poured with some head which quicly subsided and vanished when half the beer was gone. In spite of name, Original Red Ale, has virtually no red color, but does have a nice clear amber. Has a nice beery, very slight peaty nose. Pick up a littleof the peat in the taste albeit very subtle. Very malty sweet and carbonated. Can taste the alcohol, but it’s not overdone. Pleasant. Had this at the Bodega in La Crosse. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 27, 2005 Bottle. The label says red ale but it poured a medium golden color that didn’t even border on amber with an off white head. Medium aroma, sweet and candyish and the flavor is primarily sweet as well although it is not overly so. No real smoke prescence. Light dryness. Medium bodied. Not too much going on here. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 26, 2005 I have no idea how this can be placed under smoked? Anyway aroma is typical of the brewery, somethign that i cant fully to discribe rather than say like candyflossed scrambled egg? Taste starts a little harsh maybe as im trying to hard to find the whisky, and ill be honest i first had a small hint but now im about a 1/3rd through the beer and its gone along with the alcohol which has haunted all the beers iv had from these felllows. I get some creamy balanced lagered sweet malts and a little floural hops. A good strong lager/bock or whatever the hell its ment to be.
Or maybe its a style thats still to be found just like nessie herself, hehe. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 23, 2005 The aroma is sweet and the color is a light pale yellow. The flavor is sweet and there is no hint of hop bitterness. The finish on the palate is light and short lasting. thegreenrooster (1821), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 17, 2005 Pour is a pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma is more like a cider. Smoky and apple. Flavor is strong earthy malts and a bit of some raisons. Finish is pretty pland although the alcohol is pretty well hidden. Not a smoke beer and not really a red like the bottle says.
