heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jun 23, 2005 Medium amber body with a hint of cloudiness. The aroma is interesting. Hints of oak and some apples. I get the faintest whiff of smoke. The taste is sweet apples with some maple. There is also a little caramel. Surprisingly thin mouthfeel for the alcohol. The alcohol is not noticed in any way. Byt the end, the sweetness is a little cloying. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 22, 2005 Discount Liquors, Milwaukee, WI. - 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a pale golden with a thin, quickly dissipating white head. Aroma of breakfast cereal - more specifically, Fruity Pebbles with some alcohol mixed in there as well. Flavor definitely has a Scotch-like bent to it, with the alcohol playing in prominently. Some cereal, grainy flavors in there. Tastes much stronger than 7.3 % ABV. Some woody notes are present as well, but pretty much one-dimensional - that being of strong alcohol. Not for the weak of heart - save this one for a cold night in the North Highlands. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Jun 16, 2005 11.2 oz bottle. Orange gold color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is slightly smoky , but mostly fruity and sweet, touch of alcohol and whisky. A medium bodied smoked beer. Malts are fruity and sweet, slightly smoky with peat and whisky. Slightly spicy hops. Nice balance. Touch of alcohol bite, but a big hit of whisky flavor as well. Nice beer, lots better than I thought it would be. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jun 14, 2005 I opened this expecting a boring amber. Was surprised when it poured a golden color with a decent head instead. Head faded fast. Aroma was thinly bready. Second surprise was the flavor, far more malty than what I had expected from appearance and aroma. Bread clearly present, along with a simple malt flavor, and a cherry note that was not unsimilar to Robitussin. Not quite my thing. A bock I decided. Came here to put in my notes and saw it was smoked. Didn’t even remotely find smoke, even after a tasting where I looked for it. Did find some faint floral hops that bordered on vegetal. Just not my thing in the end. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA May 29, 2005 Had this at The Saloon in DC. Nice clear reddish copper with a small white head. Aroma of grain and some caramel. Flavor is pretty sweet and malty with notes of peat, caramel, toffee and a good dose of hops to balance it out. Medium body, lively carbonation. Pretty solid. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA May 28, 2005 Well, I was a big fan of this, despite it being the least red "red" beer you could ever have. Crispy, but not hoppy. The smoked old flavoring is evident, but not overpowering. An excellent beer. frylock (1001), Buffalo, New York, USA May 15, 2005 Golden in color, not red as the label claims. Light smoke and wood in the aroma. Very light smoke, some earth and a moderatley bitter finish. underwhelming. FrkAabenhuus (147), Copenhagen, Denmark May 3, 2005 Pours light golden, with almost no head. Sweet and malty, with no smoke at all. Notes of bitternes.
