Ingevara (516), Hindås, Sweden Aug 15, 2007 Medium head. Standard color for more mature lagers. Pilsener smell. Strong flavor, like a real ale but emphasized with sugar and caramel. A really nice aquaintance. Wish I had bought more... tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Aug 13, 2007 Bottle. Malted barley and other grains on the nose. Couldn’t really detect any smoke on the nose. Pours a pretty golden/copper with minimal head. Quite a grain-y flavor profile. Some sweet caramel with a dash of Euro hoppiness. Fairly rich with average carbonation. Decent, but where’s the smoke? Padron4KM (400), Chandler, Arizona, USA Aug 12, 2007 11.2 oz bottle. No freshness date noted.
Clear amber with a thin almost nonexistent head.<br.
Aroma is rich caramel and slight roasty malt. Very little smoke in the aroma. Definitely no peat.
Flavor again is light on the smoke but heavy on the sweet caramel, touch of fruitiness.
Finish is more burnt sugar than smoke, but it was still tasty.
Highland Whiskies tend to be lighter and much less peaty than other whiskeys, and this beer seemed to follow those guidelines. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 1, 2007 In the bottle from Beertopia. Contrary to suggestion, this beer is not red at all. Deep gold with a thin white vaporous head. When you swirl it, it develops a beautiful and thick creamy head that hangs on a bit longer. Mild aroma of honeysuckles in bloom on an East Tennessee morning. This is smoked? There’s not even a faint scent of smoked malt to be found. Very smooth and sweet palate, but again, I’m getting little if any smoked flavor. Perhaps the brewers were smoking something when they made it, but it didn’t quite translate from the bong to the brew kettle. A pleasant beer otherwise with a really good tasting malty finish that segues into a dash of lemon. Just no smoke. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Jul 25, 2007 Shared with theisti and KAggie 97. Thanks Kaggie! Lager yellow with no head. Bubble gum aroma with lemons and barn yard. Creamy malt flavors dominate. Finish is quick and doesn’t linger at all. Not great in my book, but hey...KAggie says it reminds him of some chicken barn he used to roll in or something....whatever, I guess that’s what Aggies do as kids. theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 15, 2007 12 oz. bottle shared by KAggie97 with myself and Zinister at the "Double Tree Houston" tasting. Pour is clear golden with a smallish white head. Aroma is slightly roasted malt and earthiness. Taste has a strange sharpness to it that is quite interesting and leads to a quick ending finish. A little bit of alcohol presence to the end. Thanks Kevin! KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Jul 13, 2007 Bottle shared with Zinister and theisti. Pours syrupy and golden, like a nice Drambouie (sp?). Aroma reminds me of the Briscoe Feed Store in Rosenberg, TX, where, as a young lad, I would accompany my parents to buy chicken feed for the chickens we had on our property. Props to Schloss Eggenberg for the nostalgic moment. Flavor is sweet malt with a touch of honey in the finish. Coating mouthfeel. I enjoyed this brew; I found it to be a great sweet, malty amber. Smoked? Not hardly, however. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Jul 9, 2007 Darker yellow pour with no head. Fruity, malty aroma with grains and sugar. Not an ounce of anything smoky in this bottle. Butterscotch (not scotch), metallic, and medicinal. No cabonation gives it a syrupy feel. Not good.
