| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2002 Clear, golden, no head, smells like beer. Quite interesting. A bit of smokiness shows itself on the palate at first, the malt is sweetish at first, then turning bitter. Finishing with a nice whisky/alcohol flavor. Somewhat smooth and creamy body. Something I wouldnt mind trying again. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 25, 2007 Pours with an amber hue, off white head, quite large, stays throughout the experience. Quite caramelly taste very heavy fruity notes that do not entirely please me, overall this is not that pleasant a beer. I don’t know if I would categorize this as a "smoked" as ratebeer.com does...more of a scotch ale. oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium

Nicely hopped, big time alcohol, but nothing to write home about. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 7, 2007 Pours a lightish amber with a small head. This one is hard to describe. Aroma is raw malts, grassy, grains. Not sure where they are getting the smoke from. I can’t locate it in the aroma. Flavor is boozy but also seems quite thin. Metallic malts, again with the no smoke. Not sure what else to say. Average at best. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Pours gold-copper with a one-finger white head. Very grainy, vegetal aroma with a bit of earthiness. Flavor is cloyingly sweet. Some smokiness comes off as metallic and plastic. Eggenberg could do better. And so can you. mcox90 (661), Wilton, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 2, 2008 Updated: Aug 3, 2008Bottle purchased at Wilderness Wines in Rangeley, Maine.Pours a golden color with a slight hint of red. Small wispy white head.. Aroma is grainy & malty. Palate is smooth with some body to it. Flavor is grains and sweet malt with a subtle hint of smoke, and I do mean subtle. It’s mostly the sweetness that stands out. In spite of the beer not matching the commercial description, I enjoyed it. It was quite tasty.
