krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Nov 30, 2008 11.2 thanks jim! vibrant bronze color. low carbonation. quickly vanishing head. Aroma is vanilla cream melons and strong berry fruit. strawberries? intensely sweet start. high alcohol is noticed but mostly in the body and texture. finish is actually quite clean. light hop bitterness. a little sticky, but not what i would call cloying. spicy finish is perfect. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 30, 2008 33 cl. Clear, orange-copper with a small spit of head. Aromas of sherry and light fruit, maybe a hint of oak. Flavor is mild cherry and cream, tannins and red wine. Light-medium body is smoothish, dry and lightly tingly, with a chest-warming finish. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 28, 2008 Pours orange-amber, with a very thin head. Sweet fruits glazed with honey in the aroma. Flavor pulls through - honey (like a mead), very sweet, syrupy and boozy. Some grain, too - almost brings raisin bran to mind. Far more bearable than the other Samichlaus, in my mind. Manages to stay a bit cleaner than the other one - though this could be because this glass was on draft... KnutAlbert (3111), Oslo, Norway Nov 28, 2008 Very stron sweet fruit. Figs.
Vinous, strong alcohol warming. Well hopped, not quite as sweet as expected. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Nov 27, 2008 (Bottled) Hazy golden with almost no head. Aroma of strong, sweet-honeyish, pale malt - and alcohol. Very sweet, grainy-pale-malty flavor with moderate hoppiness. Medium to full body, very sweet-sugary, low carbonation. What on earth have they been thinking? An ultra-sweet malt liquour with nothing in common with the real Samichlaus... except the name. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Nov 26, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. If scotch were added to the lightest barley wine ever, this would be the result. Dude at John’s told me to stay away. I’ma tell him he was wrong. Pretty euphoric brew. craftycarl21 (513), South Hero, Vermont, USA Nov 26, 2008 Holds an amber pour with very small head. Aroma is malty with some woody notes and a bit of sweet caramel, as well as a touch of alcohol. Flavor is quite nice- sweet resinous qualities, along with the malt, and a definite alcohol presence near the finish. Smooth palate, quite drinkable given the ABV. Good brew. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 26, 2008 A doppelbock? really? Not so sure. Tried a sample of this bad boy the other day at Tyler’s Bottle shop. It was hot...that’s for sure. Mostly what i picked up was alcohol, a bittle of an apple cider like character, and some big sweet malts. Haven’t had the regular sami in years but I’m sure glad I never paid for this one either. A sip is all I needed.
