FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2008 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant golden amber color with a large soapy white head that faded quickly. The aroma was biting yet sweet, fruity and yeasty with noted citrus and alcohol on the nose. The flavor was tangy, yeasty, sugary and boozy with hints of cheap bourbon and a long sweet and tangy finish. The mouthfeel was very thick. The alcohol was so dominant that it really overwhelmed this one. grikmok (92), Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA May 20, 2008 Poured into a pilsner glass. Nice golden yellow body with a head that disappeared rapidly. Initial flavor of malts and alcohol. Finish was sweet. Interesting beer, but a little too sweet for me. The alcohol level was a little to much for the body of the beer. mugabe (215), Sweden May 17, 2008 2007 bottle. Dark amber, dissipating thin head. Fruity apricot aroma of malt, sugar, and alcohol. Very sweet flavour and syrupy mouthfeel. A bit rougher than the regular Samichlaus. Turpentine finish. Very good winter warmer. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA May 15, 2008 Pours a clear golden color with NO head. Super-sweet aroma actually overpowers the alcohol vapor. Sticky, malty body reveals a touch of light fruit, berries, and alcohol. Finishes warm. BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA May 10, 2008 Pours with a small, rocky, white head, clear golden body. Head goes quickly leaving a blanket over the beer. Aroma of berries, dust and alcohol. Taste is ultra sweet with a bit of hay like tastes. Quite different, and not as much like an Eisbock as the regular Samichlaus. Some warming but the alcohol is well hidden in the taste. Mouthfeel is syrupy, as expected, with light cabonation. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA May 9, 2008 Bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine & Liquor in Colorado Springs, CO. Pours clear gold with virtually no head, but what is there is white and stays at the glass’ edge. Aroma is heavy malt (meal, cereal, cookie), average hops (grass, flowers), average yeast (sweat, dough) with notes of apricot and peach. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. JamesD (192), Centreville, Virginia, USA May 8, 2008 This is a good beer, not as good as the original Samichlaus by any means, but still a nice doppelbock. The aroma of this beer is very clean with noticeable alcohol and some faint hops. It tastes clean and crisp in the beginning before building up to a very sticky and cloying aftertaste, which I don’t find that pleasant. I probably won’t buy this again, though I definitely will continue to purchase the Dunkles. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA May 8, 2008 Darker golden color with a thin white head. (Really, a doppelbock?) Aroma is honey, alcohol, malt, faint hops. Taste is sweet alcohol, honey, malt, light caramel. Reminds me of EKU 28. Alcohol is fairly well covered, but seems for like an alcohol vessel then a quality brew.
