| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 9, 2008 Bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine & Liquor in Colorado Springs, CO. Pours clear gold with virtually no head, but what is there is white and stays at the glass’ edge. Aroma is heavy malt (meal, cereal, cookie), average hops (grass, flowers), average yeast (sweat, dough) with notes of apricot and peach. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. JamesD (194), Centreville, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 8, 2008 This is a good beer, not as good as the original Samichlaus by any means, but still a nice doppelbock. The aroma of this beer is very clean with noticeable alcohol and some faint hops. It tastes clean and crisp in the beginning before building up to a very sticky and cloying aftertaste, which I don’t find that pleasant. I probably won’t buy this again, though I definitely will continue to purchase the Dunkles. pantani (1896), Salinas, California, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 8, 2008 Darker golden color with a thin white head. (Really, a doppelbock?) Aroma is honey, alcohol, malt, faint hops. Taste is sweet alcohol, honey, malt, light caramel. Reminds me of EKU 28. Alcohol is fairly well covered, but seems for like an alcohol vessel then a quality brew. beerbastard (98), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2008 Nice pale golden looking. Sweet alcohol nose. Very full body with a candied apple sweet taste. clean finish. For a doppelbock it lacks the maltiness I would expect. Makes me think more of a eisbock. Oakes (8080), gone rambling, Vietnam
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 5, 2008 Golden body, not much head, nor would I expect there to be on a beer this strong. Rich pale malt nose, light fruitiness (lemon, pear, apricot). Smooth, soft with lush pale malts, firm alcohol, peachy/apricotty esters. Finishes nice and sticky, lick your lips style, like when you eat barbeque. Truly lovely, balanced and fresh. Eggenberg is 4/4 in doppelbocks, which I believe makes them the world champs. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 3, 2008 Pours clear bright golden with little head. Aromas of apple, walnut, date that are wholly unexpected. Sweet-smelling. Palate is insanely drinkable and quaffable. Flavors also include lots of apple and date. Sweet and dry at the same time and sweet without being cloying. An incredible and underrated strong lager. bhensonb (4245), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 2, 2008 330 ml bottle. Aroma is almost wheaty. Color is orange gold, and there is no head. Very full bodied, with sharp, creamy carbonation. The first impression is sugar, then the blood surges from the CH3CH2OH hit. Everything turns milder as time passes. This is a very superior beer. The sweetness perserveres, but it’s not obnoxious. We should be grateful that the brew is revived. It’s amazing. henrikb (1303), Aarhus, Denmark
