Commercial Description:
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1986.

Ouch!!! This one isn’t much more than alcohol-infused white grape juice. Sugary sweet at every level. Golden maple syrup hits the glass but doesn’t conjure up even the most faint appearance of a head. Grape juice followed by an alcohol bomb hits the palate and is breathed out through the nose. Completely one-dimensional. If you are looking solely to get smashed and can choke this down, go for it!!!

11.2oz bottle. Pours clear golden orangish with thin white head, which does not last long. Aroma sweet fruity, alcohol and malt. Taste of sweet honey and alcohol bite with dry finish.

I don’t get it. A second dopplebock ? Pours like blonde honey w/ a modest, shortlived froth. Aromas of sweet herbacious malt. Full nectar w/ creamy carbonation. Full on sweetness w/ very oldworld flavors of herbs, stems, farmhouse mold, vanilla cream, orange citrus, and medicine. Theres a defined tartness on the finish that helps balance yet allows the candy sweetness to breach through. It’s hard to imagine this has a 14 point abv. Well hidden.

Bottle thanks TikiE. Poures a golden yellow with no head. Smells of banana and alcohol. Very alchoholish and sweet. Pretty good, not the best

pours a clear light orange with almost no head. sweet, peachy, alcohol aroma. flavor is sweet sugary candy(cotton candy), peachy(hops), bready malts, and spicy. amazingly this stuff is fairly light bodied and covers the 14% perfectly for only being one year old. a must have for my beer stash i recently started. it’s been awhile, but i may have enjoyed this more than the regular sami.

Red label Samichlaus Helles was picked up in a 12 oz., brown bottle, and poured into a goblet. The beer came out fizzy and developed almost no head, but the body was a crystal clear, pale gold. The smell was quite an fruity and alcoholic treat. Lots of pears, apples, and grapes on the nose, soaked in cognac. The taste was warm, sweet, and ... well it was hard to get past the sweet. The spices (anise and pepper), vanilla, and fruits were all drizzled in lots of powdered sugar. Some might find this level of sweetness cloying, but I found the strong countering by the drying alcohol a sufficiently palatable combination. As I got further along, some hop bitterness showed up as well. Very richly textured, and oh so warming. Some might consider this a good fireside sipper, but I’d be beware of igniting the vapors. Fits all the classic definitions of a cellarable a beer, and I sure will be stashing away some for a decade or more to get it to peak.

bottle poured a perfect golden with a little white head. Aroma is pilsener- like. Flavor is disappointing; very sweet, malt liquor like.
