bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA May 11, 2009 Pours an orange-hued amber into the glass, literally headless. The nose is spot-on for buttery caramel and dried fruits. The flavors are very sweet, with lots of caramel malts, some toffee, followed by some diacetyl buttery notes. Not the most complex brew, but I won’t slam it as it’s not easy to integrate the flavors in a true "malt liquor", and this does a decent job. The finish does bring forth an alcohol tone, lending a light-peppery close. For 14% ABV, I have to compliment the brewer on hiding it as well as it does. Certainly not a "top-tier" doppelbock, but honestly, it’s probably the "establishment’s" best description of what the brewer was trying to achieve. Cloyingly sweet at times, yes, this is a bit reminiscent of a liqueur or barleywine, sans the complexity. Not bad for a rate, and certainly a "special occasion" snifter offering. yobdoog (1429), Woodridge NY, New York, USA May 9, 2009 Bright orange color with no head. Aroma is strong and sweet with some rice and corn aspect to it. Almost barleywine aroma to it. Taste is big. Sweet with a lot of alcohol behind it. Malty and corny and very strong. Slightly syrupy and definitely would be better during the winter months. ericandersnavy (1039), crossroads, Texas, USA May 6, 2009 bottle thanks to bhops. poured a light gold with no head. aroma of light caramel and lots of spice. flavor was caramel, lemon, and spice. light body with high carbonation. this was pretty good. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Apr 22, 2009 Bottle, 14%. Quite peppery aroma, some sweet dried fruit and dust. Hazy dark golden colour. Almost no head. The flavour starts off quite alcoholic, getting a bit rough. Then follow some of the same fruit notes as were in the aroma. Good maltiness and quite sweet. Ending with a warming but rough alcohol burn. Slightly thick mouthfeel. odgaard (249), Skyum, Thisted, Denmark Apr 18, 2009 Orange with a qquickly disappearing white head. Aroma: Alcohol, sherry, plum, caramel and a little hops. Taste: Sweet, very strong , orange, caramel, raisin. A little to sweet, but still a good beer for a dark winters night. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Apr 16, 2009 Bottle thanks to bhops. Orangish brown pour. Aroma is caramel, yeast, and nutty. Fruity tasting beer, with elements ofyeast, bread, honey, butter, mango and cinnamon spice. Blaze312 (129), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Mar 17, 2009 This beer is very sweet. There is definitly somewhat of a fruity taste. Pretty good alcohol content, definitely a hint of it in the taste. Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 14, 2009 (Bottle) Pours clear, deep golden to light amber with a small off-white head. The aroma is syrupy sweet with tones of caramel, fudge, honey, marzipan, almonds, light vanilla, grain and bread syrup. Dried fruits like figs, dates and sticky prunes are also notable alongside hints of canned pears. Fiery, apple-like alcohol in the background. The flowery, honey and dried fruits-like tones makes the nose quite dessert wine-like. Just a whisper of floral/grassy hops. The flavour is medium to heavily sweet and light bitter with tones of toffee/caramel, bread syrup, honey, some dried fruits fiery/peppery alcohol, pears, apples and apricots. The mouthfeel is heavily sticky and round with a medium carbonation. A honey and bread like maltiness lingers with a dry alcohol sting. The one thing that I like about this beer is the serious malt profile - it’s not too sugary and dead. Medium to full bodied.
