Commercial Description:
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1986.

330 ml bottle. Golden colour with a slight haze. Small white head. Fruity aromas with hints of cookies and malts. Alcohol is obvious, but does not really get in the way. Aroma of strawberries. Very rich malt flavours with a strong hop bitterness.

Bottle from Hamilton’s. Pours a mostly clear orange amber with absolutely no head. Nose was very sweet with notes of caramel, honey, sweet malts, and candied tree fruits. Flavor is very sweet, almost like desert wine.

Bottled (vintage 2007). Light amber-copper color, small white head. Caramelly ryeish malty nose. Very sweet, full body. Molasses, raisins, toffee .. soft sweet palate. Not as alcoholic as one may think. Alcohol comes in the aftertaste, when beer is warming in the stomage. Ryeish malty, sugary aftertaste with notes of lime candy.

Bottle shared by someone at RLB. Pours a deep honey copper and a thinning fizzy head. Aroma is super sweet, honey, lightly toasted malts, and lgihtly floral. Alcohol comes through a bit as it warms seems a bit too syruipy, honey, and floral, fusels, slight citrus twang in the end and a super sweet cloying finish. Meh.

It is orange-golden with a small head. The aroma has sweetness and notes of malt, peach and citrus. The flavour has a strong sweetness and notes of alcohol, malt, light raisin and candy sugar. The finish has notes of citrus combined with peppery alcohol. IMO the alcohol is very dominating, but in spite of that it has quite a nice balance.
