Commercial Description:
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1986.

12 oz bottle purchased at Oak Tree. Pours a clear bubbly orange with a small totally diminshing white head. Boozy aroma with notes of bready malts, green apples and honey sweetness. Medium chewy body with a very dry finish and slight alcohol warming. Dry flavor of booze, bread and slightly fruity. Not bad but some time might allow this beer to really show some more potential.

Bottle. Pours dark gold and clear with virtually no head. Aroma is malty sweet alcoholic. Sweet malty taste that really hides the extreme alcohol content. Has a bit of an aperitif drinkability to it. Finishes nicely, not cloying aftertaste. As it warms I started to get hint of apple and caramel. Very nice.

I don’t get it. A second dopplebock ? Pours like blonde honey w/ a modest, shortlived froth. Aromas of sweet herbacious malt. Full nectar w/ creamy carbonation. Full on sweetness w/ very oldworld flavors of herbs, stems, farmhouse mold, vanilla cream, orange citrus, and medicine. Theres a defined tartness on the finish that helps balance yet allows the candy sweetness to breach through. It’s hard to imagine this has a 14 point abv. Well hidden.

Intensely sweet aroma with a slight alcohol twinge, both of which follow directly into a complex flavor. I like this slightly more than regular Samichlaus

Vintage 2007. It pours a beautfiul deep copper beer with a quick dimnishing fizzy head which eventually dissapears completely. Sherry, walnut, apple, apricot, vanilla and almond showing up in the nose- surprisingly inviting. Complex taste. Smooth, soft, full bodied, sweet and reminiscent of almond, maple syrup, apple, vanilla and apricot. Beautiful malt profile. Low bitterness. Alcoholic on the swallow. Salty malty finish with crackers, apple and walnut appearing. A nice surprise.

330 ml bottle. Golden colour with a slight haze. Small white head. Fruity aromas with hints of cookies and malts. Alcohol is obvious, but does not really get in the way. Aroma of strawberries. Very rich malt flavours with a strong hop bitterness.

Bad ass brew. Got it on tap at the HopCat. Thick, amber pour. Sweet aroma of spice, yeast, caramel. Taste is sweet, christmasy, tasty. Lots of caramel, honey, brown sugar. Alcohol is apparent, and its a very slow sipper. Still, really cool.

11.2oz bottle. Highly sweet and alcoholic aroma. Honey, Fruit-Loops, toffee, some rich biscuit/dough and alcohol. Pours bright gold with no head. Almost looks still. Flavor is incredibly sweet and alcoholic. An initial sticky and cloying honey sweetness followed by a blast of alcoholic hotness. Whoa... tone down the booziness. Full bodied, but the alcohol takes all the fun out of the beer.
