Commercial Description:
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1986.

Bottle 330ml
Appearance: Good color of amber-gold with rocky top.
Nose : Plum , fruity with rich clean vintage alcohol , sweet caramel candy with some woody hints.
Flavor/Palate : Plenty of dry warmth , semi smooth alcohol burn. Rich malts follow. Decent sipper a bit rough at this stage.

330 ml bottle. Golden colour with a slight haze. Small white head. Fruity aromas with hints of cookies and malts. Alcohol is obvious, but does not really get in the way. Aroma of strawberries. Very rich malt flavours with a strong hop bitterness.

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is very powerful with notes of alcohol, fruits, and caramel - somewhat like a dessert wine. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of alcohol and fruit both fresh and some over ripe making it a bit heavy, leading to a somewhat alcoholic finish. The alcohol leaves a burn on the tongue.

Clear yellow color with a large head. Very slight grainy aroma. Big, bready taste with some yeast. Tastes very much like a Belgian Tripel. Fruity finish.

pours a golden orange with no head. Smells like alchohol and sweet malt. Sweet caramel flavor, no bitterness. not as flavorful as the black label sami, but still very good.

(330ml bottle, 2007 vintage, courtesy of blutt59) Pours a clear golden body with a spare white head. Aroma of apple, alcohol burn, and mustiness. Flavor of yeast, fruitiness, almonds, and alcohol. A bit hot as expected for a young Schloss Eggenberg beer. I look forward to trying this vintage again in about five years to see how it matures.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant golden amber color with a large soapy white head that faded quickly. The aroma was biting yet sweet, fruity and yeasty with noted citrus and alcohol on the nose. The flavor was tangy, yeasty, sugary and boozy with hints of cheap bourbon and a long sweet and tangy finish. The mouthfeel was very thick. The alcohol was so dominant that it really overwhelmed this one.

Clear syrupy orange with no head or carbonation apparent. Aroma is medicinal, sweet with grassy notes. Taste is sweet with faint cherry, but predominantly alcoholic, and that goes all the way to the finish as it burns its way through the descent. Despite uncarbonated appearance, it sparkles on the tongue. Definitely boozy, but still quite sippable. $6/11.2oz
