Big, sweet malt nose, plenty of brown sugar and dried fruit character, with notes of anise, golden raisin, toasty bread, vanilla and overt alcohol. Clear light amber color with a lasting, fine head and very fine lacing. Flavor is very powerfully malty and rich, incredibly sugary, honeyish malt dominates, being tempered by the peppery alcohol and moderately bitter, spicy, warming and incredibly long finish, showing hints of maple sugar and old wood late. Active, full mouthfeel with a very generous body. Really actually pretty nice now, but certainly would make a good long-term cellar candidate as indicated. mjg74 (2001), La Mesa, California, USA

Very slick looking with low carbonation. Aroma is extremely sweet with a little alcohol. Sweet flavor up front. Smooth mouthfeel. A little bit of alcohol. Pretty potent and flavorful. Nice little sipper. CaptainCougar (5548), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Pours a deep viscous golden with a spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly-sweet grainy German pilsner malt with a touch of alcohol and a hint of light fruity complexity. Body starts rich and sweet with a touch of caramel and Vienna malts toward toward a very warming finish. Doesn’t quite have the complexity of the darker version and will certainly need some time to mellow. goldtwins (4086), Nesconset, New York, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 28, 2007 Bottled at Bierfestival Gusswerk: Sweet malty aroma, ester, sharpness, sherry and fruit. Dark golden color. Flavor is sweet, malty with notes of sugar and candies. Very fruity (ester), notes of plums, cherry and cake. Full of acid, burning in my mouth. Quite sharp finish, astringent and bitter end. This one was good but too young. I think there is much potential for this beer, so i will store 2 bottles in my cellar. jzzbassman (856), New Albany, Mississippi, USA

Gotta smell this one like a good scotch, alcohol burn permeates a nice sweet malt scent. Wow is this one sweet, although paired with some slightly bitter dark chocolate it was a nice match. larsga (3000), Oslo, Norway

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Feb 13, 2008 The aroma is not what I was expecting. It’s almost malt liquor like with corn, sugar, and alcohol. The appearance is orange with an average head. The flavor is special. It’s sweet and rich with malt and elements from the aroma. The palate is thick. Overall it’s one I would have again.
