Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Poured to a fluted fest glass at Brixie’s Holiday Beer Tasting in Brookfield, IL. The color was a deep, golden amber with light, white bubbly foam that quickly reduced to just a light film and then nothing. Some light spots remained on the glass as lacing. The aroma was that of fruity sweetness, caramel, and a little alcohol. The flavor was rich malt, brown sugar sweetness, medium hop bitterness, and a more intense warming alcohol than the aroma disclosed. Full bodied with a syrupy texture and almost in the thin liqueur category.

Had this one bottled (2007) thanks to Slothgar!! Ruby, clear pour with a thin, tan head; a nice, fruity nose of candy and apricots; potent fruitiness. Strong, alcoholic finish. An interesting beer, but not really my style.

Bottle. Delicious beer. Aromas of cookie, caramel, cherry, and port. Flavour is of long duration, mostly sweet, with some bitter notes. Sticky in the palate, full-bodied, with an alcoholic finish. Amber colour, frothy white head that lasts all the way.

Rich dark cider color; Medium body; Aroma of malt, strong fruit, and spice; Flavor of sweet malt, fruit, molasses/syrup, and spice; Overall, it tastes very much like a vintage port; The alcohol is very well hidden; A little biased with the rating but I did enjoy this one - excellent brew.

Bottle. Not the best dopplebock I’ve ever had but man can it ever kick you in the tale. It sneaks up on you. Anyway, nice color and flavor. Probably won’t drink again. Just way too strong.

Bottle 2007. Initially smells of Grape Juice then turns to a alcohol induced pefrume-type scent. Taste like it smells intially then eventually the after that is like a mouth-watering shot of rye! Creamy soft texture with a little bubble and fizz. Overall a tasty, warm hibernating beer for a cold winter’s night...might need to have one available for Christmas Eve to enjoy before Santa’s arrival!

Bottle. 2007. Pours a ruby brown color with virtually no head. Aromas of plums, raisins, nuts, brown sugar, pumpernickel bread, rose, and cherries. Flavors of cognac/port, brown sugar and maple syrup. At the front of the palate, there is a huge kick of port wine that is harsh and way too sweet. Like someone dumped a bottle of port into the kettle and then threw the empty bottle at your mouth. Body is not too sticky and seems cut by the alcohol. Alcohol is well hidden by the sweetness in the palate. Carbonation is almost non-existent. Having already had two years to age, I would be curious to taste an older bottle. The aroma is wonderfully complex but the taste is way too sweet and unattenuated.
