Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Pours a ruby amber with almost zero lacing. Aroma is nice; of cherries, and a lot of other sweet, ripe fruit. Also maybe a little bit of flora. Just a little booze on the nose. Doesn’t smell like 14%. Flavor is extremely boozy, with also some fruit and cologne. Actually tastes like 20% to me, the booze is not well hidden. There’s not much going on here, I mean, it’s basically a cherry liqueur and a true oddball; It’s one of the most un-beer-like beers I’ve ever had. It’s nice from a novelty standpoint, but far from becoming one of my regulars. Usually I’m into the sweet, high-booze beers, but with this one, no. Overall, fair to good.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Pershore Rd, Birmingham. Consumed 04-04-09 Pours chesnut brown with no head but there is some light carbonation. Aroma of sugar and malt. Taste is really potent, alcohol really rips through, quite sweet in fact its a little toffeetastic. This really isn’t my thing a bit of a ’one trick pony’ and the trick being look at my and how alcholic I am isn’t really a good trick. A5 A4 F6 P2 OV11 2.8

Found this one at Jax in Forsyth County. The head fades away extremely fast. Decent transparent almost translucent brown in color. Huge alcohol aroma. I mean, with 14% I would imagine that you would be able to smell the alcohol. Slight sweet malt and yeast aroma, but nothing spectacular. Very malty taste, but soon it turns into a liquor sweet taste. Not a horrible beer. The large abv certainly makes its presence known The alcohol is not overpowering, but again, it makes itself known. Decent doppelbock, with a huge alcohol taste. Too thin for me. I was hoping for a thicker palate with some buttery notes, but that is not the case.

~Pours a golden clear amber with small creamy head. ~Stong scent of caramel, dark fruit, and dark chocolate. ~Sweet fruit candies and caramel taste. Also light raisin and honey. ~Great creamy feel on palate, alcohol very present, but very smooth. Warming sensation. ~ Wow what a great dessert beer. Sweet, but not overbearingly so. Makes me feel strong just drinking this stuff! Cant wait to drink it from a stein.

Bottle at Burger Bar in Las Vegas. The beer is a clear copper color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the snifter. Aroma of cognac, malt and fruit. Thick and syrupy body with a liqueur character. Flavors of dark fruits and malts, plus some almond. The finish is warming and smooth with a lingering sweet malt aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable sipper overall, EKU 28 could learn a thing or two from this beer.

Abbott on the Hill in Toronto. Pours dark brown body. First scent of sweet malt and figs. Very sweet! Big Sweet beer. Very much in the style of the Weltenberger, but without the same depth.

This is a downright decadent treat. You get a buzz just sniffing this stuff. But... only a serious beer lover need buy one, and a serious beer lover that loves doppelbocks. The look is copper, little head, but some lacing. The aroma is about as bold of anything I’ve whiffed. Cherries, alcohol, dark fruit, sugar. Candy sweet palate that is ALMOST too sweet. But its not. Drink this one over the course of the evening. Going down this stuff is a little rough at the end (alcohol). I’d like to try aging one. Got this at BOTW.
