Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Bottle. Pours an off-white head with a dark amber body. Smells of dark dried fruits and alcohol. Tastes of raisin, prune, fig, and spices.

Bottle@Home. Doppelbock? Eisbock more likely to me. Aroma of apples with raisin. Dark amber color, off-white completely and fast disappearing head, no lace. Very sweet, bitter, apple, cinnamon, light herbal, malty. Sticky and warming. Ok, but nothing special and one dimensional.

Definitely a very big warming brew with the massive alcohol nicely enrobed in the elegant big malt profile - it’s not just sweet there’s flavor in there, and I will keep a few bottles for maturation. Bock-like in the subtle flavors, a whiff of wet hay. Coppery golden hue, a bit thick. Moderate silky carbonation. This will express itself in the aroma over the years and right now is a bit restrained in its potential, although extremely drinkable a it is.

Bottle 2007. What a kick...loads of alcohol, chocolatey, caramel notes. Thin if any head at all. Pretty good but definitely drink to be savoured.

2008 on tap @ Hopleaf. Pours out a brownish red color with no head to speak of. Smell is fuity, caramel, some notes of alcohol. Taste is sweet and like caramel. Pretty much way too sweet, syrupy and malty. Some honey in the finish and lots of alcohol. Full-bodied.

Bottle 2007 poured a clear tarnished copper with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of prunes, carmel, toffee and pepper. Palate was medium to full bodied and syrupy with a warming finish. Flavors of plum, apple, toffee, carmel, brown sugar and light spice with a smooth syrupyt warming lingering sweet finish.
