Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Nice ruby color with practically no head. Very malty aroma with fruits. extremely sweet malt flavor with fruits. It has a nice warming feel from the alcohol but it is hidden well for as strong as it is. reminds me of a port.

Pours a dark ruby-red with no head, and a very buttery, fruity aroma. Strong dark fruit taste is almost immediately overwhelmed by warm, nearly burning alcohol. Despite this, the finish is short-lived. The body is thick and coating and low in carbonation. Quite an impressive doppelbock, but the buttery tones are a bit distracting, and the high alcohol burns off a lot of complexity in the finish.

draught at flannigan’s. Sample of 20cl in tulip glass. Poured with reasonable head. Aroma of apricot and scents similar to a smooth cognac. I found this easier to drink than the spaten optimater even though it was double the alcohol content. Good for a doppelbock but personally not one of my favorite styles.

orange colored with a little head, it had a high alcohol aroma and a taste similar to a barleywine but very aggressive in its alcohol presence. Slightly syrupy body.

2004 bottle, pours red to brown with nice carbonation and a medium tan head, classic dopplebock aroma with marmalade, cocoa nibes, cherry liquor, nuts, soy sauce and cheesy notes, robust flavors of cherry and soy sauce a bitter hoppy grapefruit finish, full bodied, warming alcohole, a treat. Old Rating: 2004 vintage, Dark ruby color with orange tiny sparkling head, robust aroma of sweet red wine, dates, apricots, soy sauce and something that reminds me french cheese, flavor is mainly of sweet fruits (cherries, grapes) with very low almost absent hoppiness, zesty, syrupy and of course warming, good beer for weekends.

2007 bottle. Pours a deep amber colour with a small tan head. Aroma is pungent, I can smell it an arm’s length away. Notes of soft fruits, cinnamon, cloves, sweet apples, caramel, and raisins. Tastes sweet... very sweet. Raisins and cinnamon dominate the palate with hints of cloves, caramel, berries, a nutty finish with a lot of alcohol. Carbonation is low, but just enough that is keeps it from being too cloying. Really boozy,a little too boozy.... Sweet, really sweet. I like it, not love it. Scores points for being complex, but I couldn’t even drink the whole bottle.

[33cl bottle, 14%, as Samichlaus Claccic] Clear, amber colour with a short and slightly tanned foamy head. Sweet and strong malty aroma with notes of cara-malt, a subtle fruity touch, hints of glue and alcohol. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Fat malty base with notes of caramel and notes of brandy arriving soon. Sweet and alcoholic, slightly honey-fruity, mead-like finish. A strong but not cloying malt liquor [19.I.09].

2001 bottle...may be over cellared. pours a deep apaque brown color with virtually no head. nice aroma...very nutty with notes of subtle vanilla, raisins (good call jeff), and phenols that reminded me a bit of scotch. flavor is extremely sweet with flavors of blackberries and light vanilla...much like brandy with a touch of hops. motufeel is very heavy and syrupy with a long warming finish.
