ILoveNewBeer (113), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Apr 4, 2008 Quite delicious. I was a little hesitant when I saw malt liquor stamped on the front of it but I am happy that I bought this beer, well worth the money. charlotte (1997), Vanløse, Denmark Mar 29, 2008 Amber colour with no head.Aroma is fruity plum, apricot heavy malty and warming mouth feels, maybe a littel to much i guess reminds me of Port wine. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Mar 28, 2008 2005 bottle: Aroma of caramel, plums, and alcohol. Even the smell is thick and heavy. Pours a ruby/copper with absolutely no head. There’s a ton of dark fruit flavor with a smooth and creamy caramel body. No carbonation and a slightly alcoholic finish that definitely benefited from a few years of aging. Very complex flavor palate, more like a fine cognac then a beer for sure. Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA Mar 28, 2008 05 bottle. Pours clear red/yellow with no head. Looks a lot like cognac. Aroma is dark fruits, plum, cherry, grape, with a bit of alcohol. Taste is more dark fruit with a hint of molasses and alcohol. Some plum and apricot in there for sure. Awesome sipper. I can see this beer being far too harsh when its young, which is probably why the average rating is so low. Give it a couple years, and it becomes delicious. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Mar 27, 2008 i just noticed that i had rated the swiss version of this on accident! sorry.
Strong malt aroma, caramel, alcohol. Pours amber with a white head. Smooth for the 14%, dates, toffee, dark fruits, great dessert beer!
BeerFanDan17 (610), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Mar 25, 2008 Rich strong and creamy. The beer is reminiscent of a brandy or cognac with strong flavors of chocolate, cream, and dark grapes. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 25, 2008 2003 bottle shared by aceofhearts. Thanks for this one!
Pours a light clear copper and looks very iced tea like in the glass. Smell is very faintly boozy and big rich sweet caramel and a nutty character to it , which along with the sweetness, reminds me of pecan prailines. Taste is rich, potent and sweet caramel with a nice warming feel to it and no distracting boozy flavors. Rich, sweet, but not cloying and really nice for sipping! 4-5 years has done this beer really well. Thanks again, Chad. renffisch (495), london, Greater London, England Mar 18, 2008 bottle @ home . Please take my advise and try this one with the heaviest goooeyest chocolate cake you can find and you’ll love the stuff. Beer and cake sounds odd but in this instant it really works!!! because, samichlaus with its heavy alcohol, does need something to balance it out, and due to its gorgeous treacle, caramel, coffe, vanilla and oak flavours lends itself to chocolate perfectly!
