blklab2007 (938), Connecticut, USA Mar 17, 2008 so a friend brought over two bottles of this last year and we tried one and it was not so hot. we started into a few others and he told me to keep the other bottle which i have cellared now for a year.
bottled 2005 the worlds most extraordinary beer poured a caramel amber in color with a thin layer of white head that faded quickly. carbonation started off strong but died just as fast as the head. aroma has dark fermented fruit, alcohol, sweet syrup, and dark malt. taste is plenty sweet with dark fruit and molasses. seems it has mellowed a bit from aging and is not as cloying in the sweetness department. bits of oak and vanilla come through after the taste buds get over the shock. there is a strange creaminess that has come about and it is actually much more drinkable.
daddyslick (36), Arizona, USA Mar 16, 2008 For me, this was more a novelty beer. It’s worth trying because it is unique, but that doesn’t make it very drinkable. I was fortunate enough to find a magnum of this beer and made a party out of it. It is important that this beer is as cold as possible, once it warms up it because incredibly hard to drink. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Mar 16, 2008 At Three cellars tasting. Kidnap the Samichlaus, throw him in a box. Lock him up for 90 years and see if he talks… Sorry, bad Nightmare before Christmas joke there, but that movie left a better impression on me than the "Strongest beer in the world!" Very sticky and the alcohol is prevalent, way too sweet. Almost like taking a shot of something… bad. pepsican (884), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Mar 12, 2008 Pours amber with a thin white head. dark fruit and booze aroma. Flavor is red and greemn apples, molasses, sugary candy, brown sugar, alcohol. Very syrupy mouthfeel. Lots of booze noticed. Interesting. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Mar 11, 2008 Updated: Mar 18, 2008If it were not served chilled, I could confuse Samichlaus Bier with a port. The color is a beautifully deep amber with a quickly disappearing but nice head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of whiskey, molasses and cherry. This is a fantastic after dinner drink. BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Mar 9, 2008 2006 bottle. Pours with a small white head that quickly turns to a ring. Caramel clear colored body. Aroma of dried fruits and candi sugar. Taste is very sweet with some copper in the aftertaste. Syrupy, light carbonation, some alcohol warming, different. Bottle claims "the strongest lager beer in the world", but it doesn’t taste quite as strong as 14%. Is this really a dopplebock? as (116), Novi Beograd, Serbia Mar 7, 2008 Had this one in Berlin last summer. Extraordinary , of course, but simply too sweet and alcoholic. The alcohol level affects the overall taste too much, making the beer kinda syrupy. Very interesting drinking experience, nevertheless. jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 6, 2008 A tasting at Three Cellars Milwuakee.
So-So nothing special here. Sweet but not as sweet as the urbock 23 and bitter. On the strong side.
