Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

330 ml bottle from Bevmo. Clear maple syrup color with no head. Aroma of molassess, butter, and alcohol. Sweet brown sugar/molasses and alcohol taste with sticky palate and alcoholic warmth to the finish.

On tap @ Pizza Plant walker. Big alcohol, cognac like aroma. sweet syrupy whiskey malt like taste with big alcohol presence. Definately a sipper. Not for me

Aroma has a lot of aggressive spice: clove and nutmeg. Quite sweet but not quite syrupy. Alcohol is surprisingly well integrated for being such a bruiser.

Age unknown. This is a strnage brew. The aroma was a bit like a Greek or Italian dish, full of green olives, alfredo sauce, blue and cheddar cheeses. Clear amber with a thick yellow head. Vinous and syrupy sweet without being medicny. Weak olive finish. Potent. Way too sweet and complex for my unrefined palate. I’ll try this again after I hit 1000 and see if my opinion changes.

2006 bottle. Pours amber with no head. The taste is dominated by an alcohol bite with some type of fruit. A sweet and spicy flavor, it’s tough but nice. Overall, really good, just not an everyday drink, unless your Chuck Norris.

Bottled in 2005. Had at 3F Brewpub. Amber pour with no head or apparent carbonation. Smells of spice and alcohol. Sweet malt flavor with caramel, raisans, spices, and dark fruit. Very smooth. Medium mouthfeel with some heat in the finish. Very, very enjoyable. Easy drinking for 14%. Like a fine cognac.

Tried this at the 2004 Seattle Intl. Beerfest and wish I could have tried the original Swiss version. Really enjoyed it. Although the alcohol is detectable the beer tastes great. Dark, malty, rich, strong, smooth, and balanced. Lucky to have sampled it, as I cannot get it anywhere near me.

Vinous aroma - sort of like sherry. A clear cognac color with essentially no head. Medium body; mild carbonation. Starts with malty sweetness, something like toasted caramel. Noticeable heat. Finish is very slightly sweet, suggestive of a decent brandy. Interesting way to end an evening.
