Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

A 2001 vintage bottle shared by scluffman, pours a clear reddish amber brew with no head, no lacing or any sediment when decanted. Aroma of high alcohol, aged oak, brown sugar, dark chocolate and sweetened caramel. Taste is medium to full bodied, some carbonation with a sticky maple syrup, dark chocolate, molasses with a high alcohol honey flavor. Finish is heavy alcohol, sweet and more warmth after the aftertaste and finish. This is quite a treat and well brew for the winter months.

Clear reddish brown with malt, caramel, a bit of fruit, and alcohol in the nose. Flavors of molasses, dark fruit, sweet malt, and alcohol. I’ve got a few bottles that I’ll lay back for awhile to see what happens, this is just not that good when young (2006 bottle).

Golden Amber pour with a small white head. Fruit and alcohol very apparent in the aroma. Malty flavor with tons of alcohol and hints of berries. Finish has a slightly pine flavored. Taste like a Barley wine with a shot of vodka in it.

An intriguing beer. The aroma is of malt and alcohol. When you sip it (and believe me, you have to sip it) the flavor is a striking maltiness, followed by a blitzkrieg of alcohol. Eventually you can taste the tannins and the many nuances of this very deep beer. It feels almost like drinking a brandy. This is worth trying at least just so you can say you’ve had one of the strongest beers in the world.

a "samichlaus" is the swiss niclaus. fascinating that the beer with this name is brewed in austria where nobody understands the word. smells sweet and alcoholic. taste starts oily and sweet. ends up with a little arome of hops and spicy touch of cinnamon. the whole beer has got an alcoholic taste.

Bottle-2006. An inviting dark amber colour with no head. Big aroma, molasses and alcohol. The alcohol is there on the palate too. Complex, sweet, fruity raisiny flavour. Syrup like mouthfeel. A very elegant beer.

Bottled in 2006. Caramel aroma with an alcohol bite. Dark golden color with no foam. Starts sweet and finishs with a slight alcohol bite. Would know this one was 14% if it wasn’t on the bottle.

Bottle. Nose is alcohol heavy, like liquor-like heavy. Malty sweet behind it, but the malts have to fight their way out. Some caramel and a touch of coffee. The color is bourbon-like, clear but dark brown. Alcohol is somehow more subdued in the mouth, thankfully, allowing more caramel malt flavors to come through. Very smooth mouthfeel with some burn from the alcohol.
