drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Apr 8, 2007 Updated: Sep 30, 2009Very sweet and malty. High taste of alcohol. Creamy taste. Carmel flavor. A nice gift from a student! Thanks, Joe.
Updated to reflect 04/06 tastings that showed more of the brandy. Moz (613), Gothenburg, Sweden Apr 8, 2007 Bottle (2001 & 2006). Dark amber with a very small head. Complex fruity aroma with raisin & alcohol. Almost puked after the first sip of the 06 bottle. The 01 was almost as disgusting. Both went down the drain. Definitely not my beer... Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Apr 7, 2007 (2006)poured into tall tulip. pours a dark clear amber with low head quick to dissipate, good ring left. lots of carbonation present, bubbles.... aroma is very sweet with lots of alchohol and fruity essences... taste is sweet on the front with the strong alchhohol finish, you feel the warmth in the swallow... has a whisky feel on the palate, and taste left on the tongue... this one I had was very fresh and young, I can imagine that with age it will be wonderfull... once the alchohol is on the palate this drink is great.... a real enjoyable, warming sipper... I enjoyed it, you find yourself rather buzzed after one, and definitly wanting another, not too much of an aggression to keep you from wanting more, only the 14% slows you down.... emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Apr 3, 2007 Poured a golden copper brew that showed a little red with light. The head is medium thin, off white, and slightly frothy. The aroma is very reminiscent of wine, I smell very defined grape and muscadine with alcohol. The vinous character resembles Ayinger Celebrator. The flavor tastes very much like a wine, muscadine and alcohol are very very prominent. The palate is very smooth and creamy with a strong dry alcohol backbone. The finish is dry and very warming. Overall, I thought that this was very highly underrated and was disappointed with the reviews. From the reviews I read people seemed to misinterpret the sweetness. I don’t think this beer falls into a clearly defined beer style and as such shouldn’t be looked at as such. ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 31, 2007 Updated: Feb 3, 2009Bottle 2002. Clear copper, small and quickly vanishing beige head. Strong malty aroma with raisins, figs, burnt sugar, and some hops. Smooth and medium bodied. Complex sweet flavour, never overwhelming, and a bitter and dry finish. Rating 8/3/6/4/15->3.6.
New rating, bottled in 2007. Too sweet and sugary, and alcoholic.
bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 29, 2007 2005 Bottle sampled in 2007. Pours a clear coppery amber with no head from a pretty cold pour. The aroma comes through the cold, with alcohol, raisins, toffee, apricots. The taste is like drinking sugar cookies and apricots that have been soaked in vodka. Warm and slightly spicy finish. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 29, 2007 11.2oz Bottled in 2006. So apparently I’ve never gotten around to rating this. We’re trying the freshest one I have. Pours a clear dirty orange with a minimal light yellowish head that lasts about 8 seconds. Big aroma of scorched caramel. There are also some juicy raisins, toffee, a bit of grain, and some salt. Taste is booze soaked raisins, lots of caramel and toffee, some lightly toasted grain, and lots of alcohol. For a moment there is also some lightly tart cherries. Very sweet. Alcohol almost burns the sinuses, but not quite. Light tingly carbonation with a thick syrupy body. Semidry finish. This would be a great digestif. However, one bottle is way too much for one person. Also, this is quite a bit better aged than fresh, which isn’t really news to anyone. brianbuntz (49), Santa Monica, California, USA Mar 26, 2007 Pours a deep amber, almost brown. Quickly diminishing head. Boozy aroma with dark caramel and whiskey. Hint of citrus.
