Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

2007 bottle. Pour was thick dark roasty brown with a strong but smooth malt aroma. Flavors were very well blended with toast, sweet malt, smooth alcohol, some cognac. Very aromatic and flavorful brew. Definitely a fun drink.

330ml Bottle: Pours pumpkin orange, no head to be found. Aroma is cherry liqueur, caramel sugar.. strangely, the same aroma you’ll get from rotting lettuce, sweet and pungent. Not that it’s bad, but quite strong. The booze hits you instantly on first sip, it’s VERY strong. Afterwards you pull out a heavy, syrupy sweetness alongside brandy and candy apples. As it warms it balances slightly but that cognac-like hit of booze is there all the time. Bit much for me, but I respect it.

I found this bottle and was immediately intrigued... Pours a pretty shiny tan head and a syrupy looking light muddy brown. Aroma is pretty intense, with heavy amounts of liqueur smell, little boozy, bunch of sugar and malts. Taste is sweet and hell of malty. Heavy dark fruit taste. Alcohol well covered, but you certainly can’t drink it fast. I suppose you can only drink one of these at a time, but that is why it doesn’t come in a six-pack.

On tap at 515 in Santa Cruz. Poured into a snifter. Deep amber with a fluffy and sticky beige head. Aromas of caramel, eggnog, raisins, other dried fruits, and alcohol. The taste is very sweet and borders on cloying unless you really take your time. Big honey and raisin notes with a very syrupy texture. Alcohol is obviously present but not distractingly harsh. Too thick and sweet for me.

Draft at Burp Castle. An alcohol fueled monster. Poured dark with some read. Fruity and a bit plummy? I don’t know. But yeah not malty enough and with 14%, damn...

Pours a ruby amber with almost zero lacing. Aroma is nice; of cherries, and a lot of other sweet, ripe fruit. Also maybe a little bit of flora. Just a little booze on the nose. Doesn’t smell like 14%. Flavor is extremely boozy, with also some fruit and cologne. Actually tastes like 20% to me, the booze is not well hidden. There’s not much going on here, I mean, it’s basically a cherry liqueur and a true oddball; It’s one of the most un-beer-like beers I’ve ever had. It’s nice from a novelty standpoint, but far from becoming one of my regulars. Usually I’m into the sweet, high-booze beers, but with this one, no. Overall, fair to good.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Pershore Rd, Birmingham. Consumed 04-04-09 Pours chesnut brown with no head but there is some light carbonation. Aroma of sugar and malt. Taste is really potent, alcohol really rips through, quite sweet in fact its a little toffeetastic. This really isn’t my thing a bit of a ’one trick pony’ and the trick being look at my and how alcholic I am isn’t really a good trick. A5 A4 F6 P2 OV11 2.8
