COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2011 Whoa. Make sure you don’t have anywhere to go after this one. The alcohol, at 14%, packs a little punch even on a full stomach. Very satisfying and enjoyable. I found this one at a liquor store near Cafe DuMonde in New Orleans, and I would really like another. Good beer if you can find it. Nice blend of molasses, caramel, roasted nut, and a tinge of dark fruit greet the tongue after a wiff of molasses, caramel, light cocoa, and roasted nuts. Slick and lingering on the tongue. Great beer.

Bottle at home from spar, Vienna
Honey brown with rich golden syrup malt nose. Thin white head that soon disappears. Really sweet, alcoholic, more sweetness, touch of solvent. Not my thing at all. Full bodied, medium carb

I have been looking for this one for a while & I cannot believe where I found it. Found it @ Ralph’s Bar at Place Lux in Brussels. Been here a couple of times and only drank half litters of Carlsberg because this is really not the place where you would expect to find something like this – didn’t even bother checking the menu before now. Borderline, cub-like atmosphere, loud jarring music, people getting drunk after work, swigging half-litters of Carlsberg, huge posters advertising said beer, lots of people out on the street, Champagne bottles popping, drunk people dancing on the tables etc. you get the picture. Their menu has a beers of the world selection which does have a few duds like USA is represented by Budweiser but also Sam Adams. Mexico by Corona – just leave out Mexico maybe? Germany by Bittburger but also more interesting Vitus. The rest of the countries is totally of the map & unexpected, Denmark is represented by Mikkeller, Netherlands by Emelisse & De Molen, Scotland by Brewdog,… really impressive & hard to believe esp. since some of the beers on the menu I had never seen before in Belgium like this beer representing Austria. Which was also sold at the same price as Budweiser, namely 4.5 euro which seems like an exceptional price for this one. Congratulations to whoever made this beerlist.

2012 Vintage. 33 cl. bottle @ office goodbye drink. Pours a clear, fox brown amber with quickly fading beige head. Shockingly clear & light looking compared to what I expected. Extremely sweet herbal taste, pure cough syrup, harsh, hugely herbal, like a garden, rum & brandy cake, hugely sticky caramel malts, molasses & soy sauce, near Chinese spices & medicine sticking in the back of your throat, huge herbal & sweet character tempers the sweetness, Porto, crystallized brown sugar, light acetone, nail polish… Feels a bit oddly light body-wise. This is brutal taste-wise & not alcohol wise, stuff like this is fairly easy to drink, strength wise – went down just as easy as the Carlsberg I had before. Reminds me of Sink the Bismark. Mainly commendable for how hardcore this is, everyone else at the table thought that this was extremely disgusting.

Et lyst gyllent øl. En fin duft med en liten duft av honning. Honning preger også smaken med en liten conjac lignende smak. Godt øl til dessert i små glass.

330ml bottle. Clear copper amber colour, thin white head and aroma is boozy with sweet caramel, raisins, sugary syrup. Taste is sweet smooth malt caramel, toffee, dark fruits, brown sugar & some woody oak, followed by a wave of warming alcohol ending on a harsher almost grassy note. Syrupy mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, with a clean finish. Very sippable.

Bottle. Pours a clean amber with no head or lace. Notes of carmel, figs, brown sugar, chocolate, dark and stone fruits and booze. Pretty hot but still pretty drinkable. I’ll need to sample an older vintage some time.

Think one is enough for a day. Mahogany pour with next to no head. Aroma is caramel, raisin and port wine. Taste is the same as aroma but with a pronounced sweetness and alocohol at the end.

Mahogany pour with a khaki head. Rich dark fruit, maple syrup, chocolate, and hints of soy sauce. Caramel, brown sugar, and some oxidation. Very sweet flavor of dark fruit, maple syrup, chocolate, caramel, and brown sugar. A touch of oxidation, some soy sauce, a little alcohol, and port.
