3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I was given the advice to save this beer for 5 yeras or so...but being the impatient person that I am, I decided this 2001 bottle was good to go. Poured nice and virtually head free, which wasn't unexpected from what I read on the label. Very very big beer, lots of malts of course, but you could taste the complexities beginning to come out. It mellowed some as I let it breathe...but I'd really like to see this beer in 3 or 4 more years. Mmmm.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a gorgeous amber color, almost the same as a fine whiskey. Aroma is hard to place. Robust malts and hops? Almost no head which disappated quickly. This definitely doesn’t taste like 14% alc./vol. A tremendous beer with a ton of complexity!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Darker amber colour, small off-white head. Huge aroma of figs, caramel, apple, plums. Very much of everything but not the best balance. Taste was so sweet it’s insane! Som bitterness also and a long warming alcohol heat at the end.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours reddish brown with a thin white head that quickly dissipates to a thin lace. Aroma is carmel malt. No hop aroma at all. Upfront flavors of candy apple, toffee, and candied fruit. Very little hop presence. Finishes with brown sugar, cherry, and an alcohol warmth. Syrupy mouthfeel that coats the tongue. With an alcohol level at 14%, this is definitely a sipper. Enjoyable, but sweet. I prefer a bit more hops. All in all, though, a very good winter warmer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2006 bootle stored in rotbox. aroma of sherry, raisins, deep potent grape drank. high boost mellowed nicely into a sweet grapey sherry port concoction. finish has an offputing cherry coughsyrup note. too damn sweet and cough syrupy.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, vintage 2013.
Clear orange/amber with a minimal head. Aroma and taste of toffee, dried fruit, sugar, raisin, malt and brandy. Warming alcohol although not boozy. The body was thick. I quess that this will be even better with aging, say 5-10 years or something like that. This young bottle is a pleasant "winter warmer".

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pas de mousse, sirupeuse, très sucrée. Presque pas de bulles. Est-ce encore une bière ou est-ce une liqueur ? Persistance en bouche très longue, fait penser au Porto...

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bright clear caramel colour, white dissipating head. Aroma of alcohol, malts, caramel, red fruits, raisins, hints of whisky. Sweet flavour, alcohol, lots of raisins. Finish sweet sultana raisins. Actually I didn’t like this beer one bit with the first whiff and sips, being quite harsh, but as you continue it grows on you, mellowing down in time and opening up into more subtle aromas. I can see this fitting with a nice piece of cheese, bit like a Pedro Ximinez.
(33cL bottle @ home. Bottled in 2012. Leftover from RBBSG, if I remember correctly from ThirstyBird. Thanks Rian!)
