Aroma is strongly sweet with a caramel hint to it. Taste is extremely sweet followed by the alcohol. The palate is dry. KnutAlbert (3217), Oslo, Norway
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 15, 2006 The alcohol comes on strong in this one, and I am reminded of port and sherry. Lots of sweet fruit in the taste, and a finish very similar to the strongest Belgian brews - probably due to them using a similar yeast to boost the alcohol content. It is pleasant to sit and sip this with a good book, rather like a glass of whisky. Rather flat, at least my bottle was so.
It claims that it ages well, as is often the case of the stongest beers. If I had a decent cellar, I just might lay down a few bottles - but then I probably would have gone for some vintage port instead

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 11, 2003 Cool! My 100th beer rating is a Dopplebock!! Is this really a Dopplebock?? This bottle was bottled in 2001. This brew poured a small head that quickly disappeared. There was no lacing on the sides of my glass. The carbonation was evident as I saw it rising to the top. It appeared to have a malty aroma to it. The flavor was sweet. I could definitely taste the alcohol in this brew. The taste was syrupy and chewy. It had a burning sensation as it went down. This is definitely a sipping beer. TheBeerGod (3177), Newport News, Virginia, USA

Dark and rich with strong alcohol taste throughout. Perfect as a dessert or as a companion to chocolatey desserts. One of my top 5! Excellent beer. Recommended. ****Re-rate: This is perfection. The more I drink, the higher it goes up on my scale. Believe it or not, the ’Bier Garden’ in Portsmouth, VA has this on tap! Let me assure you it is even better on tap. Seek it and drink it!!! | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 10, 2003 A flat brown beer with a very malty and strongly alcoholic aroma. The flavour is like a sweet sherry. Overall the beer is horrible, it is just too strong. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 9, 2003 2001 - Ok - so the bottle says "the world's most extraordinary beer". Well, I wouldn't go that far - but it is pretty damn good. Pours with a deep amber color and leaves a slight, quickly dissipating head - probably cannot survive in the alcohol! Aroma is like a fine bourbon with a bit of sweet pipe tobacco thrown in. Flavor - like bourbon, with a bit of malt thrown in. Hard to believe this is 14% ABV - while evident and apparent - it does not overwhelm or distract. Not sure why I bypassed this so many times - must have been the cheap looking bottle (hear that marketing folks?). Palate - goes down smooth - coats the belly well. Will remember this one this coming winter. ogivlado (3108), Zagreb, Croatia
