Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Another beer from the pre noogfest tasting. A strong raisiny date like aroma. A spiciness with a good warm alcohol finish. A bit low on the carboantion but a smooth mouthfeel. A little more malt would have made this an excellent beer..

Bottled 2004. Pours a lovely dark ruby color.Aroma is sweet. Hints of apple cider, spices and alcohol. First sip: chocolate/spice right up front then goes into a mild cider flavor, and finishes off with alcohol. The alcohol is certainly noticable but it does not detract from the flavor, it only adds to it. Has a lot of things going on in this beer. Warming as it goes down. Good stuff.

courtesy of cartdan. 1995 vintage. pours dark brown, no head, nice tainted golden stain on glass. aroma had hints of soy with malts, and a strong chocolate nose. Definitely nose of a beer that has some years on it. taste, boozy, soy, lots of caramel and lots of sediments. chocolate malts. All the fruit flavors of dark fruits are there and seem muted by the age and the soy like palate. They are noticeable but not as much as younger versions.

Bottled in 2005 - Updated Rating 12/28/2009. I put two bottles from the original 4-pack away to allow it to age. I didn’t realize that nearly three years had passed since I first rated this beer. The pour is identical to what I recorded in my original review. The aroma is very fruity with lots of raisin and some candied citrus. Caramel is present in the nose as well. Noticeably absent are the strong alcohol vapors I remember. The flavor is caramel, raisins, candied citrus and brown sugar. The strong alcohol burn at the finish is gone, replaced by some gentle warming. Smooth, somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Not sticky or sugary. This beer has matured quite nicely and has improved with age.

Original Rating 1/25/2007. 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a brilliant clear reddish copper. The head appeared briefly, and like a glass of soda, disappeared completely into a fizz. Aroma of oranges, honey and candied fruit. The dominant flavor is brandy with a bit of orange and honey. Long alcohol burn at the finish. A bit syrupy in the mouthfeel. A real winter warmer. I plan on putting a bottle or two away to see how this ages. 7-4-7-3-14=3.5

Bottle at porterhouse, Dublin. This is basically Cognac. It looks like it, smells like it and it’s too strong for beer. Way, way too strong. Cool to taste it but nothing more. Not pleasant in any way. Perhaps, off-piste.

a deep red in color w/ a nice light head and a bit cloudy.. the scent was alcohol, malt, and sweetness. The palat was acidic w/ a warm finish. The flavor was very swweet and malty w/ maybe a hint of chocolate and molasis.. some sweet fruits in the finish. Overall a good strong beer, but maybe a bit too sweet.

bottle split two ways, courtesy of Dan. Brownish amber in color, with a very small off white head. Aroma is very sweet, alot of caramel, dark fruits, and alcohol. Taste is also very sweet, with alot of caramel, and dark fruits, alcohol is way too prevalent in this one, burns the throat, heat lingers through the finish.
