Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Bottle sampled in Montreal. More like a QuadroBock. Pours dark brown body. First scent of sweet malt and figs. Very sweet, but with a strong tone of alcohol towards the finish. I feel like this beer is big for the sake of being big... not because it fits. Suitable for desert.

11.2 oz. bottle on 1/23/2008. Deep coppery amber pour with a spare off white head that settled rapidly. Strong caramel aroma with very noticeable alcohol and some hints of vanilla and dark fruit. Thick, viscous, with low carbonation and a rich stickiness. Quite sweet, but seems to go well with the other qualities. Bitterness is never a factor in this beer. Best for sipping, late in the evening, like a vintage port.

Bottled 2000: No carbinaton to speak of on this deep dark copper beer. Not a lot of aroma. Very sweet tasting, too much for my needs, but still worth the try.

Expectations were high, but were still exceeded by this world class beer. It has a ruby/amber colour with a slight head that quickly disappears, and a wonderful butterscotch aroma, which is slightly harsh. The flavour is intensely sweet and candyish, and the mouthfeel is syrupy and coating. The flavour is incredibly complex revealing butterscotch, caramel, and molasses. It is lightly medicinal with alcohol flavours and its overall warmth only present at the finish. A truly world class beer!

(2000). Strong aroma, slightly unpleasant, poured and fizzed like a Coke, syrupy mouthfeel, initially it tasted too sweet and too strong, as I sipped it the tastes improved, still sweet but less alcohol flavors. Ok, but not that great.

It’s big, it’s sweet and it’s chewy. Big and rich with some sfruitiness and booze. Not the worst, but far from the best...
