Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

12 oz bottle, 2004 vintage. Pours a clear bright copper body under a very fizzy two finger beige head that almost completely disappeared. Aroma is an all out malt bomb with a hefty dose of alcohol fumes. Very clean though overall. Flavor starts out very sweet and one dimensionally malty and finishes with a hot alcohol burn. Alot of fig, date and toffee in the middle. Mouthfeel is thick and full bodied yet for all the sweetness it isn’t overly cloying. Carbonation is soft and fine. Overall, this is as fresh tasting as ever, even after almost two years. Gonna take a long time for this to take on an aged character.

11z bottle. 2004. Just like the Urbock 23, lighter in color than expected. Amber gold with not much head. Very alcohol in the nose. With notes of raisins, spices, and a sherry/port flavor that is a wonderful winter warmer.

OK, I’m a sucker. The label of this beer says, "The World’s Most Extraordinary Beer" Come on!! Budweiser say its the King of Beers! The taste is somewhat ilke Three philosophers, sweet and full-bodied, but it tastes like they cheated and used artificial Belgian Strong Ale flavoring. Pleasing, but not great.

11.2oz Bottled in 2006. So apparently I’ve never gotten around to rating this. We’re trying the freshest one I have. Pours a clear dirty orange with a minimal light yellowish head that lasts about 8 seconds. Big aroma of scorched caramel. There are also some juicy raisins, toffee, a bit of grain, and some salt. Taste is booze soaked raisins, lots of caramel and toffee, some lightly toasted grain, and lots of alcohol. For a moment there is also some lightly tart cherries. Very sweet. Alcohol almost burns the sinuses, but not quite. Light tingly carbonation with a thick syrupy body. Semidry finish. This would be a great digestif. However, one bottle is way too much for one person. Also, this is quite a bit better aged than fresh, which isn’t really news to anyone.

Bottle-2006. An inviting dark amber colour with no head. Big aroma, molasses and alcohol. The alcohol is there on the palate too. Complex, sweet, fruity raisiny flavour. Syrup like mouthfeel. A very elegant beer.

The color was amber/orange/golden. The head was fizzy and white. The aroma was alchol, fermented fruit, grape, and berry. The flavor was dry, soy sauce, salty/sweet, fermented fruit, grape, and alcohol. The palate was smooth and the finish, very warm. I really like this beer. I think that it’s generally rated too low.

Rich strong and creamy. The beer is reminiscent of a brandy or cognac with strong flavors of chocolate, cream, and dark grapes.
