tgncc (299), Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 25, 2008 From the Beverage Barn in East Meadow, NY. Aged in my basement since last August. Beautiful aroma of dark fruits, alcohol, oak. Very attractive rusty red to brown color and a clear, modest white head. Nice sweetness in its flavor, sweet malts, candy sugar, slight alcohol 9especially for 14% ABV). The finish is sweet, and has a pleasant alcohol burn. Thick, oily mouthfeel. Nicely crafted beer. Definitely a winter beer. Not really like a dopplebock, it is more like a barley wine, without any hoppiness.
fiver29 (335), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bottle pours amber color with a thin off white head. Aroma is strong toffee, caramel, tootsie roll, alcohol, and sweet smells. Mouthfeel is medium body. Flavors are strong toffee, alcohol, fruit, brown sugar, candy, and over the top sweetness. Overall not a bad brew. Just too much alcohol with the other ingredients have a hard time mixing well. scrycer (5), USA does not count Oct 3, 2008 A very, very interesting beer. Sweet, sweet smell. Beautiful color, but absolutely no head. To me, tastes like a mix between beer and a liquor (maybe port?) due to the creaminess and the extreme sweetness. A little too sweet for me, but my friends (who don’t drink too much beer) loved it. I would lean towards using this primarily as a dessert. JB175 (1364), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 29, 2008 2005 bottle (I’ve had many on tap, but wanted to try one that was a bit older) Ruby-amber coloring with a medium, but fading head. Aroma is sugary-sweet with candy, brown sugar, and strawberries. Flavor has a heavy burnt-sugar/malty/dark fruit taste that I really dig. Solid feel with a nice crisp finish. Just a little alcohol in there. Went very nice with some honey goat cheese. The verdict: Still young, but after having the 97 Hurlimann Samichlaus earlier in the year, I can say that this really is a beer that shouldn’t be touched for at least 8-10 years. Its good now, but deserves to be laid away. bconley (40), Fern Park, Florida, USA Sep 25, 2008 Dark amber, with hardly any head at all. The smell has lots of maltiness, as well as the taste. There alot of alcohol taste, which kinda made it tough towards the end of the glass. I don’t think I’d chilled this one quite enough. Have to give it another go. Pretty cool though. Russo (507), Campinas, Brazil Sep 23, 2008 Bottled. Dark amber color with a almost beige head, not persistent. Aroma is sweety with a quite alcohol note. Flavor i s pour alcohol, too strong, Oh Lord! Mouthfeel is dry and a hard alcohol presence.
