Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Pours a clear dark amber with a thin head. There’s little carbonation and the aroma is sweet malt and alcohol. The flavor is syrupy sweet but not in a bad way at all. There’s a dark fruit aspect to it as well. It is apparent that this is a high alcohol drink and meant to be sipped. The mouthfeel is slick and warming. I had tasted some 1995 and 1996 vintage Samichlaus recently and decided I really wanted to put some away for a few years. However, this drink is such an enjoyable nightcap that I’m not sure my stash will stay untouched.

"Bottled in 2007" Pours a burnt dark orange, totally clear, no head. Aroma is bursting with super-sweet caramelly maltiness. Cloying fruitiness. Flavor is very sweet, not much roastiness, just straight caramel. No hops, clear alcohol bite. Thick and chewy. Not sure about this beer, maybe it should be older, but i don’t think cloying sweetness = sophistication. Still very interesting and definitely worth trying.

2006 bottle. Dark copper, quickly disappearing small white head. Very attractive, like a nice little glass of sherry. Strong syrupy malty aroma, little smoke, butter and dates. Very syrupy flavor, dried fruits, alcohol, little port in the surprisingly hoppy finish. Warming. Full bodied, low carbonation. Lovely, but nothing to daydream about. The 10cl was just enough.

The once strongest beer in the world? Who knew. Aroma is brown sugar, malt, raisons. Flavor is Sweet malt, dark fruity hints, alcohol. Pretty complex palate, carbonation hits you on back end, interesting beer. Slightly syrupy, but not overdone.

Bottle brown, 330 ml, 32 P
Appearance: Pours brown to red, a bit hazy in texture, carbonation of the body is weak, head is fizzy and rapidly disappearing after half a minute completely while initially is small, white, looks very oily.
Aroma: Cherry liquor, strong sweetness and heavyness in aroma, alcohol is not that harshly felt as I could expect from the strongest beer in the Lager world, in fact alcohol is felt very gently, I think it’s not only a reason of brewing technique but it’s also thanks to the low carbonation. All in all aroma is mild.
Flavour: Front is kind of heavy alcoholic nose and sweetness on the tongue than quite quickly you can feel the heavy body, fat maltyness, almost syrupy like, there is quite considerable ammount of hops but it’s still completely dominated by syrupy sweetness. In spite of that there is flowery and fruity (mainly cherry with a hint of plum and bramble) retronasal aroma. Finish duration is long. A load of additional sweetness. Extremelly warming beer. Later on some bready touch, very good for cold winter evenings.
Palate: Body is full, texture is syrupy, carbonation is practically not felt on palate, finish feel is heavy alcoholic.

Vintage 2006. Bottle pours a very dark amber with a quickly dissipating thin tan head.Aroma is sweet, malty, hint of apple. Taste is sweet with hints of light fruits, vanilla, scotch, and oak finishes malty and bitter. Good alcohol burn
