COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

This incredibly potent bier is deep orange and perfectly transparent. A small pale head quickly disperses, but the mild carbonation remains. Aromas of fruit and malt with a dose of alcohol. On the palate, Samichlaus is dominated with molasses, sweet malt, and alcohol. An incredible nightcap that will warm on the way down with a lingering flavor I tasted for minutes after each sip.

Draft to taster. Looks good for the style; a transparent copper with very light beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells malty and a little boozy with notes of caramel and toffee, and a strange but unaversive peach presence. Tastes like it. Smells with a medium-full bodied mouthfeel. Hot, but enjoyable.

Bottled in 2014. Pours a deep, brilliantly clear amber with an off white head. Medium carbonation. Very thick and chewy. Flavors or toffee, caramel, dark dried fruits and rum. Lots of alcohol warmth and a slightly cloying sweetness especially as the beer warmed up. This is my favorite style of beer and this was an excellent bottle, but not one for everyday enjoyment. I can’t wait to buy another one or two to try aging for years to come.

Ruby red brown. Aroma is much like a Belgian quadrupel - toffee covered raisins. Taste is big sweet toffee. So very sweet. Liqueur sweet.

Wow. Boozy sweet after dinner liquor style beer. Like an subtlety played quad. toffee biscuits and plums.

Bottle from a continental market in Cheltenham. Deep Amber colour with I head. Aroma is Christmas pudding. Taste is sweet with lots of fruit. And boy you notice the alcohol.

BOD 2013. Pours a beautiful clear medium amber with a rich dark ruby cast. Exceptional head volume, lacing and retention for 14% alcohol. Rich nose of dark fruit (plum, raisin, date), caramel, and brown sugar over a rum like alcohol base. Full bodied with a thick creamy texture that is also oily slick, simply superb. Below normal carbonation with just a touch of effervescence in the finish. The flavor profile is intense, not very balanced (sweetness predominates) and complex. It begins with an assault of dark fruit (plum and raisin mostly) against a very rich sweet caramel malt background. In the middle, the dark fruits fade rapidly while the sweetness blends with a rum like alcohol. Sweetness and rum slowly fade into the finish where a bit of hop bitterness is evident. It leaves you with a surprisingly light alcohol burn at the back of the throat over a lingering sweetness with notes of rum. At room temperature, the rum flavor becomes quite pronounced as does the burn. This one is hard to review. The first sips are world class (4.6 on the first pass), but after 10 ounces or so over 45 minutes, the sweetness becomes a bit annoying and I have the 750 bottle! So in goes a wine cap and back in the fridge this one goes.

Dark brown colour. Aroma is sweet with brown sugar, raisins and caramel. There’s some cola-like sweetness along with the dried fruits. It’s very warming but a bit too sweet.
