COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Bottle. Poured a medium brown with a slight red hue around the edges and a small white fizzy head with no lacing to speak of. The aroma was heavy with the scent of toasted malts, a mild resin hop and a soapy yeast with notes of dried fruit (raisins and plums) and a strong does of alcohol. It tasted very sweet and a little acidic with almost a wine characteristic from the dried fruit from start to finish with a real warming sensation from the high alcohol content at the end. Mouthfeel was light to medium in body and dry in texture with a medium carbonation. Overall a very boozy brew, a little more than I would have liked.

Pours copper with little head. Smells sweet. Taste is complex. Sweetness balances out the alcohol. Good beer.

2006 vintage. Deep mahogany color and crystal clear. Virtually no head. Malt-tastic aroma! Tons of raisin, vanilla, oak, and tobacco on the nose. Sweet on the tongue with little bitterness to speak of. Really soft and creamy palate. This beer does extremely well with age.

11.2oz bottle, 2007 vintage, shared by Blake. Clear amber red - orange color. No head or lace, but a very nice color gradient to it. Big dark malty dark fruit aroma. Some caramel malt. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Sherry, some hints of oxidization maybe, but still tasting pretty good. Sweeter taste. Light sweet alcohol bite, not bad at all though, for 14%. Very interesting, huge, flavorful aromatic lager to sip on. Extra point for being so interesting, bold and big. Good one to share, though... Would have been too intense to have to my self

Sweet vanilla on the nose, hints of cherry and maserated plums. Pours Ruby amber, no head. Tastes of caramel, vanilla cherry, plums and well balanced to the alcohol but a tread over sweet. Rich and thick on the palate

Bottle at home from spar, Vienna
Honey brown with rich golden syrup malt nose. Thin white head that soon disappears. Really sweet, alcoholic, more sweetness, touch of solvent. Not my thing at all. Full bodied, medium carb

I have been looking for this one for a while & I cannot believe where I found it. Found it @ Ralph’s Bar at Place Lux in Brussels. Been here a couple of times and only drank half litters of Carlsberg because this is really not the place where you would expect to find something like this – didn’t even bother checking the menu before now. Borderline, cub-like atmosphere, loud jarring music, people getting drunk after work, swigging half-litters of Carlsberg, huge posters advertising said beer, lots of people out on the street, Champagne bottles popping, drunk people dancing on the tables etc. you get the picture. Their menu has a beers of the world selection which does have a few duds like USA is represented by Budweiser but also Sam Adams. Mexico by Corona – just leave out Mexico maybe? Germany by Bittburger but also more interesting Vitus. The rest of the countries is totally of the map & unexpected, Denmark is represented by Mikkeller, Netherlands by Emelisse & De Molen, Scotland by Brewdog,… really impressive & hard to believe esp. since some of the beers on the menu I had never seen before in Belgium like this beer representing Austria. Which was also sold at the same price as Budweiser, namely 4.5 euro which seems like an exceptional price for this one. Congratulations to whoever made this beerlist.

2012 Vintage. 33 cl. bottle @ office goodbye drink. Pours a clear, fox brown amber with quickly fading beige head. Shockingly clear & light looking compared to what I expected. Extremely sweet herbal taste, pure cough syrup, harsh, hugely herbal, like a garden, rum & brandy cake, hugely sticky caramel malts, molasses & soy sauce, near Chinese spices & medicine sticking in the back of your throat, huge herbal & sweet character tempers the sweetness, Porto, crystallized brown sugar, light acetone, nail polish… Feels a bit oddly light body-wise. This is brutal taste-wise & not alcohol wise, stuff like this is fairly easy to drink, strength wise – went down just as easy as the Carlsberg I had before. Reminds me of Sink the Bismark. Mainly commendable for how hardcore this is, everyone else at the table thought that this was extremely disgusting.

Gyllen ravfarge med lite skun. Søt lukt av honning og malt. Smak av honning og sherry. Et godt desertøl. Årgang 2011. Melkebaren.

Et lyst gyllent øl. En fin duft med en liten duft av honning. Honning preger også smaken med en liten conjac lignende smak. Godt øl til dessert i små glass.
