COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

I would be lying If i did not say that the title of "malt liquor" on the label did not make me generally excited. ohhh.. to have a malk likka tick from Austria. i guess it was not meant to be. pours mahogany brown, translucent. light caramel, pitted fruits in nose. generally sweet, cherries in the mouth. large but creamy body. impressed.

Dark red colour with an off white head. Aroma of dark malts and hints of brandy. Slightly bitter, deep caramel taste with a prune background. Great thick mouthfeel. Fairly smooth taste considering the huge alcohol content. Great winter beer to sip by the fire.

Good looking bottle design. A very dark red in the glass, nearly no head. Like liqueur with a malty background on the nose. Starts very smooth and oily. Almonds, dark fuits, plums and malt. Wooden barrel in the aftertaste. Full fruity body, little bit sweet sticky. The alcohol is present in a pleasant way. Great one!

94? How? It tastes like a Belgian ale...and i almost threw up. Thank God i was able to quickly get my money back and replace it with a Korbinian...which is about the most delicious beer i’ve ever tried.

Aged over 3 years. Syrup, bourbon and booze are the dominate notes on the aroma. Some sweet malt shows nicely in the background. Pours a clear, deep amber with no head. Taste develops in two waves. Front half is more flat grain. Follows through on the mid to back palate with complex dark fruit, boozy sherry-like notes, biscuit and maple syrup. A tale of two cities, and i end up liking this beer a lot. More like a cognac than a doppelbock.

2010 vintage bottle thanks to Phatdog1. Thanks Craig! Snifter show a nice dark red color with fast vanishing head. Aroma is huge raisins and dark fruits. The flavor has layers of malt. Caramel, toffee, raisins, plum notes and a sugary note. Maybe even a dried fig flavor. The alcohol is mellowed after the amount of age and the sweetness helps cover it up for sure. A nice mild alcohol warming is felt after the sip. It warms the stomach nicely. The texture is lightly syrupy but not sticky. This is delightful to sip. I need to cellar more of this.

Bottle at Birratrovo in Como Very good meditation beer. Something between passito and prosek. Raisins, winey, a hint of hops. A lot of taste very equilibrated

Bottle. Pours a clear, medium brown, smallish off-white head with okay lacing. Nose is mainly big malts with hints of vanilla and some caramel. Mouth is full bodied, creamy and sweet, malt forward with some toffee, orange peel, vanilla, figs and toasted bread. Warm at the end (not surprisingly). Good beer for a frigid night like this one here in Chicago, where the temperature is hovering slightly above 0.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2014 This pours a deep dark amber with no head. The aroma is of very sweet stewed dark fruits with some alcohol. Taste is very sweet and intense with a noticeable alcohol presence. Very warming and one to take slowly, I am tempted to buy another and keep it back for a few years to see if it mellows and develops further. Still, a nice beer which I am glad I have now tried!

UPDATED: APR 20, 2014 33cl in a Delirium Noel glass. Pours a viscous dark amber colour. Perfectly clear and absolutely no head or carbonation. Aroma is extremely rich dried fruits, alcohol and malt. Taste is more of the same but maybe a little too strong/sweet (burnt sugar). Comparable to a glass of quality Cognac. This will remain to be my last drink of the day every Christmas. It is that good. Wonderful.
