COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Pours clear deep amber with one finger of loose light tan head diminishing rapidly to nothing, no lacing. (3/5) Nose is malt vinegar, dark fruits and caramel malt. (6/10) Taste is strongly sweet boozy malt, slight bitter. (6/10) Heavy, syrupy body, moderate to low sustained carbonation, sharply alcoholic finish. (3/5) No real surprises here - this was, after all, once the strongest beer in the world. Strongly sweet, heavily syrupy, and, shall we say, lacking in a certain subtlety. I was expecting aggressive, but this verges on harsh. Really more like a barleywine than a dopple. Not without its charms, but I wouldn’t want to try to tackle more than one at a go... or in a week... or a lifetime...? (12/20)

Bottle 330ml. (2010 Vintage). Pours clear brown with no serious head. Some legs (this is sweet...) Aroma is of malt, fruits (raisins, plums), alcohol. Taste is of malt, bread, alcohol, sugar, raisins, sweet fruit jam. Palate: Full bodied. Very low carbonation. Overall: Good, complex, but way too heavy and sweet. Not drinkable.

Clear copper color with small head that fizzes away quickly. Aroma of sweet malts and dark dried fruit. Taste is very sweet and quite boozy. Body is syrupy with a light fizz. Overall a tasty beer but a bit difficult to drink because of the overwhelming sweetness.

Flasche (33 cl).

McWorta (644) - LUXEMBOURG - NOV 2, 2014
(Bottled 2012) Deep copper sunset amber coloured with a small fading dark white head. Slick viscosity with some light lacings. On the nose aromas of raisin, caramelised dates and figs with some earthy wood notes and sweetened dark fruit jam arises. A light carbonation offers itself up to a slick textured full bodied beer. Dark sweet fruit flavours are predominant with some honey infused herb notes. Harmonically balanced with a long lasting alcohol finish.

330ml bottle @ the 9th Shrewsbury Bottle Share Oct 14, brought by myself, thanks to Geiserich. The penultimate beer of the night and a great way to end! Pours clear with a reddish hue. Taste is strong caramel malts and dark fruits galore with a smooth character and nice bitterness on the finish. A rich and compelling taste. Need another bottle of this!

simardsam (144) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 19, 2014
