The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

This incredibly potent bier is deep orange and perfectly transparent. A small pale head quickly disperses, but the mild carbonation remains. Aromas of fruit and malt with a dose of alcohol. On the palate, Samichlaus is dominated with molasses, sweet malt, and alcohol. An incredible nightcap that will warm on the way down with a lingering flavor I tasted for minutes after each sip.

a little alcoholic and sweet for my taste in style, but a cool every once and a while beer anyway. sweet and bready, abv shows, little hopping.

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. Distinct beer, I would say. Perhaps too sweet to my taste. Good quality anyway. A: Pours a clear amber to brown (caramel) color with a small beige head which dissipates quickly leaving few lacings S: Perfume of nuts and fruits (cherries, plums and raisins) spreads around when it’s poured. Caramel malts and oak. Alcohol is quite relevant T: Taste follows the nose. Caramel malts, nuts and dark fruits are really relevant (mainly cherries, plums and raisins). Very sweet and toffee upfront (negative point). Wood. Stingy bitterness in the end M: Heavy, creamy and molasses. Low carbonation. Liquor sensation D: Medium. Quite sweet and strong beer. To be appreciated with moderation [ BA Review @ 11/7/2010 ]

Bottle, sample served with chocolate cake. Didn’t take proper tasting notes. This beer doesn’t feel like a beer, it’s like a dessert wine, but less overwhelming.

On tap. Clear burgundy. Hay, grain, and dried fruit aromas. Taste matches the aroma. Thick and very sweet, with the strength masked.

Hints off peach and raisins, very little carbonating. Taste well suited for rich and quite strong tasting food. Would benefit from storage.

Bottle from Hammelhus, Hammel. (2011 Vintage). Pours clear amber with an off-white head. Sweet malty taste, caramel, sweet fruits, syrup, alcohol. Full body. Creamy mouthfeel. Oily texture. Very sweet warming finish.

If this is what one of the greatest doppelbocks tastes like then I am disappointed. It tastes like fizzy cognac with added sugar.
