Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1987. 32į

Pours deep amber color with a minimal fizzy white head thatís gone before you know it. Rich vinous aroma notes of vanilla, wood and alcohol. Taste is overly sweet and malty. Itís certainly smooth for 14%, but itís pretty one-dimensional.

2007 Bottling. 6 years old at this point.
Appearance: Clear ruby body with a short and thin light tan head. The head forms a bubbly ring with almost nothing anywhere else on the surface.
Aroma: The aroma is strong of toasted and cracker malts with a musky fig aroma and a deep caramel presence.
Taste: Whoa, take your time with this. The intro is intense with a deep raisin flavor that persists throughout. A huge musky presence is throughout also with cracker malts and brown sugar/caramel hints notably towards the finish. The finish lingers of syrupy grape.
Palate: Thick and syrupy with mild carbonation.
Overall: This is a beer that you need to take your time with, best enjoyed while shared. This drinks like an aged barleywine and has held up nicely for a 6 year old beer.

2007 bottle.Murky dirty orange. No head, low carb. Aroma is sweet and caramelly, slight heat.Light herbal / B-vitamins. Has some fruit/berry/spice and dry oak notes. Taste is rich malt, sweet but not really too syrupy, vannilla-caramels.Slick mouthfeel, buttery.Lot of butter caramel,oaky-almost boozy.Licorice.Strength in the finish with some spicey/peppery finish. Has some orange flavor and a bit of citrus as well. Sweet licoricey vibe to it overall.Pretty good tasteing really.Enjoyable.Almost just a standard good barelywine though.

Bottle. Clear copper beer with a small offwhite head. Dried dark fruits, sweet and malty aroma. Sweet, fells almost like pure sugar and alcohol flavour.

Bottle. Deep lustrous brassy body with a rapidly diminishing head. Sweet bready aroma, with light toast and fruit. Heavy malty body with high residual sugar, syrupy sweet, with toasty notes and hints of caramel apple. Warming finish. Extremely well executed, but I prefer my d-bocks with much more toast and less sweetness.

Bottle 5/18/13. Amber color, thin head, small carbonation, sweet alcoholic nose with honey and clover notes. Alcoholic warmth runs through to your chest, viscous mouthfeel and very honey/floral taste--almost like a meade. Interesting for about 4 sips, but I couldnít finish my pour due to the intense sweetness (and drinking it in warmer weather was also a detriment).

Bottle at the DISOB tasting, Den Haag. Poured a clear copper colour with a glass hugging white head. The aroma is rich and alcoholic. The flavour is big bitter and alcoholic. Itís sweet on the palate too and probably tastes like a 19th century Wild West elixir!
