Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1987. 32°

Very sweet and boozy both to the nose and tongue. Extremely thick and syrupy. Overall rather unpleasant for me.

Bottle @ Three Notch’d Tasting. ’07 vintage. Amber pour with a small head. Nose of strong sweet toffee. Apples. Very grainy flavor. Concentrated apples. Somewhat hot toffee. Bearclaw donut. Still pretty boozy. Full body, soft carb.

God och kul att prova den från 2007. Men inte lika bra som ordinarie. Man förlorar choklad tonerna. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle into a snifter. 2010 vintage. Pours a hazy brownish red with nary a head. Some very splotchy lacing on the sides of the glass but that’s it. Aroma lets you know this one will be sweet. Fruitcake and prunes along with some caramelized sugar. Some touches of sherry. Actually pretty good. The taste is a complete sugar bomb. Brown sugar and caramel sauce mixed with prune juice. There is not much oxidation but it is really hard to get past the sweetness. Booze galore letting you know this is a strong beer. Warmth and sweetness linger. Overall, I figured this one would be very sweet and I was right. I really wanted to enjoy this one but it just isn’t for me.

This beer pours an orange color with no head. The aroma is strongly boozy but oddly smells like red Twizzlers, and the taste is initially boozy with some malt flavors; the aftertaste has a touch more sweetness. The palate fuses an oily texture, nearly flat carbonation, and a medium body.

Pours a clear deep amber with a quickly dissipating off white head. Strong floral aroma of honey. Very sweet honey flavor, caramel, golden raisins, with warming alcohol to follow, light carbonation, a bit of earthy finish. Excellent sipping, dessert beer, a very pleasant surprise worth searching out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
