Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1987. 32°

on bottle and tap within the same week. More carbonated on tap, not to detriment of beer - on bottle killed head. On bottle the bottle may have sat a while, but not to detriment of beer. Picked up at Pipe and Pint in Greensboro. Very clear with meadlike sweetness and alcohol to nose. Thick mouthfeel, malty toward slight syrup. Alcohol is pleasant and diversity of malt flavors impressive. Smooth, drinkable whiskey type finish. I could easily drink myself to death with this drinkability to alcohol ratio and never notice it.

0,33l bottle out of Craftbeerbox shared with a friend. Maltysweet, creamy, slightly bitter at the end. The alcohol is well hidden. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma of sweet malts are most prevelant with alcohol and some apple hints as well. Apperance was a amber color with a very thin head. Flavor was similar to the aroma- very sweet malts, alcohol was very noticeable, occasional hints of fruit, grass, and some metallic notes present. Mouthfeel was kinda like a dessert wine, syrupy and the alcohol warms you up. Overall it was o.k. and i wouldnt mind trying it again if it were aged a couple of years, but at six bucks a bottle i probably wont try it again. Originally rated on 10/29/08.

2012 Vintage. Pours clear amber with no head at all. Loads and loads of caramel, fudge/toffee, sugary sweet goodness, some alcohol and perhaps a wee bit smoke (?) and chocolate (?). Taste is pretty much as the aroma but with prominent peppery and nutty notes, some chocolate as well. Full body, low carbonation, sugary and sticky mouth feel.
Good but too sweet and cloying, I’d preferred to split the bottle with someone.

Bastante buena. Para repetir.

(Schloss Eggenberg Samichlaus Helles) Bottle 330 ml from Sebilinz, thanks Erich! Vintage 2015, served into a snifter, ABV 14% Deep copper orange colour on the body, crystal clear, with a small and thin, off-white head on top, low retention. Aroma of malts, sugars, light fruity notes, alcohol, apricits. Very sweet taste with syrup, sugars, dried apricot, peach, malts, dates, prunes. alcohol, sherry wine. Medium body, soft carbonation. Rather enjoyable, good sipper, I’d like to try an older vintage some time.
