mgermani (567), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 8, 2008 Pours a clear gold with a thin layer of foam and lots of bubbles, minimal lacing. Aroma is very lagery, stale skunky hops. Taste, well things are looking up; this is sort of like an imperial lager more than any doppelbock I’ve ever tasted. Wow. Very much like any lager you’ve had at first, but then you realize it’s super strong, thick, and full of alcohol. I definitely taste raw figs, apricot, spicy towards the finish - I can see how the "cognac" description fits at this point. Warms nicely at the finish, coats the throat, nice and chewy and reasonable carb. I do like this beer, but not within the context of a doppelbock. How about European Strong Lager?
