330ml bottle into snifter glass. Pours clear deep golden with a thin short lasting white head. Aroma is honey sweet malts with traces of bitter blood oranges and a dry muskinness. Palate is smooth and cognac-like with alcohol to the fore and sweet malt favours and a low carbonation. Rich and full bodied. Best to handle with care.

caramel, grass, hay, alcohol, golden, clear, minimal head, white foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, umami, medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, bitter, long finish Pour is golden with minimal white foam that disappears quickly. Aroma is sweet with grass and hay and a slight alcohol. Taste is a rich toffee that slowly blends into a bittersweetness. Bitterness persists. A medium body with an almost chewy consistency. Mouthfeel is creamy then turns a bit dry with some alcohol on the tongue. Very minimal carbonation. The 9.6 ABV is well balanced, and will sneak up on you. Excellent sipping beer.

Bottle. Pours a clean gold with bubbly white head that quickly dissapates. Nose of honey, lemon, hay, stone fruit. Sweet and boozy, decent bitterness on the finish

The most nearly perfect beer I’ve ever had. 9.6% alcohol but smooth as glass! Like a good cognac or a good brandy. If you like a thick head on you beer, this is NOT the beer for you!

330 ml bottle bought at Biere von Irene in Yuen Long.

Clear golden amber colour; Very thin head and white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Minimal lacing and notable carbonation; Aroma of dark fruit, sugar, caramel, toffee and light alcohol, which can be smelt far away as soon as it was popped; Very cloyingly sweet taste of sugar, caramel, toffee, sweet malt, light liquorices, alcohol, hint of brandy / cognac, light citrus and grass; Medium body, thin but oily and cloying palate with no creaminess at all; Taste profile is overwhelmingly sugar sweet - not as terrible as Burg 10% but it’s on the same wavelength - which blanket over what’s left of caramel, toffee, malt, citrus and hops. The cognac note was so low it’s also buried under the syrupy grave. Brrrh! Booziness is surprisingly muted and hidden in smell, taste, and kicks. It is way better than the same brand’s Doppelbock Dunkel; Hop bitterness - again from hop extract - is evident and artificial, and not enough to counter the sweet taste, with sugar sweetness to close out. Slightly dry after taste; Cloyingly sweet and slightly boozy to mouth.

Comments: One word is enough to describe this mess: super-sweet. Having such taste is bad enough for low end stuff like malt liquors, but for a Bock, this is totally out of question: it should not happen to an otherwise decently-nosed / tasted, well booze-managed beer. Half a glass is simply too much for me and the rest is drain pours. Totally ruined by unbearable sweetness. Downright horrible!

Pours yellow with minimal head. Aroma of malt, straw, barn. Fairly sweet, malty, not a favourite of mine, but it might be to someone else. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPad

Pours clear, yellow, effervescent with a white head. Aroma is sweet, hay, caramel, and a little fruit. Tastes sweet, syrupy, a bit grainy. Smooth & creamy palate. Final impression - more syrupy and grainy than I prefer.

Pours a slightly hazy reddish orange with no head. Aromas of sweet malts. Flavor is perhaps one of the sweetest I’ve come across in a "dopplebock". It’s super rich and creamy and some very light carbonation, but also has an odd thickness about it. It’s not as boozy as the EKU 28, which I also recently reviewed, but it reminds me a good bit of it. Not bad, but not something I would care to drink that much of.
