AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Mar 30, 2008 Clear dark yellow color with a thin white head. Classic pale bock aroma is dry grainy malts and corn. Rich, full bodied taste and mouthfeel of an Imperial Pils mirrors the nose with a noticeable alcohol bite. Has a lingering finish. Not too bad. 6147 Jan Primus (160), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Mar 30, 2008 Pours a bright gold colour with short lasting head. Aroma is of alcohol. First taste overly sweet and syrupy...not good. It gets much better though as the beer warmed up the the sweetness and alcohol presence were tamed and the experience wasn’t half bad...still not really my style but I can’t say I hated it either. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Mar 30, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Bottle at Kolding Ølmesse. Pours a clear golden body with a nice white head. Sweet, malty, alcohol aroma, tending towards a fine brandy or cognac. The flavor is the same malty and sweet, low on hops and fruityness, and even more pronounced on the alcohol than the aroma. Full, warming mouthfeel and a long, sweet finish. The alcohol is of course present in the finish as well, lasting for a good while. I liked this beer quite well, but it’s maybe a bit on the sweet side, and it wouldn’t hurt if the alcohol profile were toned down a bit too. Rated late in a drinking session: 7-4-7-4-15-3.7. (080229)
A clear golden beer with a small, white head. Sweetish, malty and fruity on the nose, with a little touch of cooked vegetables. Quite evident alcohol as well. Warming in the mouth, too evident flavor of cooked vegetables, and very malty sweet. Nice fruityness and a decent bitterness trying to balance it. More noticable bitterness in the finish, which is quite fruity, but still sweet and malty. Full, quite sticky, mouthfeel. What can I say, the beer is nice, but for it to be more than that, you should have downed a few already. If it’s the first beer of the day, it doesn’t give you joy, but after a few, it’s another show. Therefore, I give it a rating in the middles of my two impressions. Rated as first beer of the day: 6-3-6-3-13-3.1. (080605) rwgould (58), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 22, 2008 330ml bottle. Pours a golden orange-yellow, very clear, head vanished instantly. Little visible carbonation. Aroma is very strong, smelling mostly of fruity hops. Palate is smooth yet silky, and does have a kick. Taste is an intense combination of malt, hops, fruit and sweetness. Taste is quite complex and interesting. nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 22, 2008 11.2oz bottle. Medium golden-orange color. Aroma is ruthless, like a cognac or liqueur. Taste is creamy, smoky, and smooth, with a kick of cognac-like flavor and alcohol. The finish is quite warming but pleasant. Moving past the intense aroma, I find this beer to fill a niche of it’s own. Great malt characteristics. A unique classic. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Mar 21, 2008 Very nice rich gold with almost no head. Sweetish aroma and got some vanilla flavour. Not as sweet as many bocks I’ve had lately which is a good thing.
Decent finish and kicks a real punch.
matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Mar 20, 2008 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. pours golden with a short lived fizzy head that had huge bubbles. soft carbonation. aromas of complex sweet malts with some chewy graininess and noble hops with alcohol coming through at the end. flavours are initial a plesant mix of sweetness, malts and noble hops before the alcohol smacks you in the face. not a bad brew but theres alot i didnt care for. my other bottle will not be opened for a while and we will see if that helps smooth this one out a bit. garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 19, 2008 Bottle from LCBO, golden with zero head and zero visible head. Malt-grass aroma with lemon traces. What a mix mash of flavour, bitter, toffee, sour, sharp, not nice at all, drainpour
