JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Mar 6, 2008 Updated: Aug 7, 2009331ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a semi-deep golden colour (a lot lighter than I was expecting), with almost no head. It looks pretty nice in my snifter. Aroma: Chewy malts, almost like a barley wine, backed up by alcohol, maybe some corn, not really much hop activity going on here. Taste: Bracing myself.......WHAM! I’ve just been punched in the face by ALCOHOL! Tastes are basically the same as the aroma, so I won’t be redundant in naming them again. I’m really not sure I can drink this.........generally liquids that can actually punch me IN THE FACE aren’t really my thing.........seems decent enough, but like, my poor throat can only be burned so many times in one evening. The alcoholic flavour is a bit much...... F***, lay off man, I just want to drink you.......it just refuses to lay down and be a good session brew! Way too dry and boozy, God who the hell could actually enjoy this. jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 6, 2008 A tasting at Three Cellars Milwuakee.
So-So nothing special here. Sweet and bitter. On the strong side.
armando629 (953), Budapest, Hungary Mar 1, 2008 Updated: Mar 7, 2008Strong one. Amber color with a small head, fruity aroma. The flavour is spicey and sweet with raisins, syrupy and fenolic with a moderated hopy taste. It warms you up with the full-bodied character. Nice beer and it was made under the german purity law... scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA Feb 18, 2008 barnyard aroma of wet hay and alfalfa. raw alcohol comes out once it warms up, sweet wheat foundation earthy finish kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. Amber hued golden with a big off-white head. Some spotty lacing. Deep fruity malt aroma. Very sweet tasting with a cloying bitterness. A bit warming, phenolic, medium bodied. This seemed more like a pourly down strong ale than a real doppelbock from the color down to the sticky fruity malt body. mybestfriend (261), Gothenburg, Sweden Feb 16, 2008 Bottle. Yellow with a minimal white head. Aroma of both dried and fresh fruit that have been dipped into caramel. Nice! Very sweet taste with a creamy mouthfeel - made me think of a mixture of honey and alcohol. Some dried fruits and caramel as well. You can feel the alcohol (but that did not disturb me). The finish was quite dry with a bitterness that gets heavier for every sip you take. Nice! WillieV (191), Maryland, USA Feb 13, 2008 Bottle: Nice light golden pour with absolutely no head. As it sits in the glass you see very .. very little carbonation. Scent is citrus with a big hint of alcohol. Surprising how smooth it is with that much alcohol. brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Jan 28, 2008 Touches of honey tinged malt in the aroma, you can expect some sweetness in the taste based on this aroma, sure enough a sugary Fruit candy sweetness, with a big backkick of alcohol, that scrubs the palate dry of all sweetness and invites the nest sip. Pleasant enough winter sipper
