mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jan 12, 2008 Draft pour at the Saloon in DC. Golden honey amber colored body with a thick textured white head. Sweet, sugary malt nose with some heavy lemon grass and fuel notes. Clean up front but there’s a strong bite of malt liquor-like fuel alcohol that’s difficult to get around. It sits thick and heavy on the tongue, with sweet candy sugar and a rough bite of alcoholized corn. Overall it’s forward and unabashed, pricking the tongue, grating the palate, presenting itself as higher octane than it actually is, and while there’s some things not to like, you have to appreciate how vibrant and fresh and forward the entire thing is. irishpenguin13 (27), Leesburg, Florida, USA Jan 9, 2008 nice darkened golden color with a peppery spicy aroma-hint of grapefruit, sour melon?. goes down with a nice warm finish. perfect after dinner drink. almosi (279), Viña del Mar, Chile Jan 1, 2008 Has a golden dark color, with a head small and lasting enough. The aroma is strong and sweet, almonds and sweet candy. The flavor is very strong, very malty, but at the same time sweet. Has a bit of bitterness, which one hides behind the caramel. The finish is very sweet and alcoholic. Is sticky and deep, almost it does not look like a beer. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Jan 1, 2008 Golden with a moderate head. The aroma is sweet and malty and so is the flavour. It has notes of caramel, fruit, raisin, plum and a bit of figs and alcohol. The bitterness is moderate/light. It’s strong and in a way quite OK, but I had expected something along the lines of Samiclaus, but it’s far from.... 1518 Hazmatt (363), Virginia, USA Dec 27, 2007 Updated: Apr 17, 2008Bottle. Very light color, very thin and fast dissipating head. Aroma is malty, toffee, alcohol, touch of sulfur. Flavor is strong, bitter with hops. Okay beer. Strong, warming. Metalhead (570), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA Dec 26, 2007 Bright gold pour. No head. Aroma is sweet. Fruit and caramel. Taste is semi sweet. Like a watered down cognac. Sticky mouth feel and a slight alcohol burn. Not bad but $13 a 4 pack is a bit pricey for what you get. I would not even consider this a doppelbock. More like a strong lager. ohad (16), Israel Dec 22, 2007 no head, amazing light amber color. almost non-existent carbonation. intense sweet aroma of fruit and carmel.
very sweet, with mouth-filling bitterness. complex flavours of caramel and pale malt. sticky and thick. remind me of cognac. very nice barley wine.
I really didn’t know this was a lager, its very Ale-like. Rune (2761), Tromsø, Norway Dec 9, 2007 330ml bottle from a Billa Supermarket in Vienna. Clear, late straw coloured body with virtually no head. Weak fruity notes in aroma. Sweet taste in the direction of candy and honey. Notes of dusty grain. Fizzy stuff with a tangy alcohol ending, but the alcohol is not as stong as expected. Too sweet and rather one- dimensional dobbelbock (30.11.2007).
