PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Aug 18, 2009 Bottle. Golden orange colour with a thick, disappearing white head. Aroma of raisin, grain, orange zest, vanilla. Mouthfeel is sticky, a bit syrupy, medium in body. Flavour is sweet with plenty of oak, some apple, more dark fruit, alcohol. Finish is long with oak and mild bitterness. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 16, 2009 [2332-20090725] 330mL bottle. Mildly toasted eggy grains aroma. Clear, orange brown body with a quick foamy white head. Very sweet malt flavour with a long sweet grainy aftertaste. Medium-full body. Interesting to try though overly sweet.
(w/ jerc, tuqueboy; Happy Birthday, Dad!) BeerChaser0078 (283), Melbourne, Australia Aug 10, 2009 Bottle. Well it seems I liked this beer a little more than some of the recent reviews. Pours a golden amber with a creamy white head that doesn’t last long. The aroma is quite thin with a little bit of honey and a touch of oak. The flavour is quite sweet: notes of vanilla, caramel and candied lemon, with the creamy palate accentuating the overall sweetness. I first tried this a couple of years ago and didn’t realise that it was a lager until this current bottle. All in all quite pleasant. glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA Aug 7, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt notes of light bread and caramel, light orange and dough for the hops andyeast, with dates, brown sugar and alcohol in the background. Head is small, white, with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear light bronze. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately bittersweet, lightly acidic and salty. Palate is medium, syrupy with an almos flat carbonation and finishes lightly alcoholic. Kind of pale for a Dopplebock, and the lack of a head makes it appear like a blah beer, but the aromas and flavors are bold and pleasant. The soft carbonation is a bit dangerous in that there is very little impedance to quaffing this beer in three big gulps. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Aug 5, 2009 [Tap] Sample notes from January 2009. Pours a dark amber color with almost no head. Aroma is quite alcoholic. Notes of sweet malts as well. Taste actually includes some noticeable dark fruits and bread. Very sweet and alcoholic. A couple of ounces of this stuff is OK, but drinking a whole glass of this stuff is a little much. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2009 Deep amber colour. Nose; oranges, apple, spice, canteloupe. Strong flavour, very sweet start, extreme bitter finish. The aroma was so complex and promising it really let down the flavour. Should drink a little warm, and sip like port. Quack-Duck (3128), Bodensee/Schwarzwald, Germany Jul 28, 2009 bottle from Interspar Bregenz, bought early in 2008. Clear golden colour with a small white head and visible tiny carbonation. Malty-herbal nose. Full-bodied, intensively malty with lots of herbal hop flavours and hints of honey. Very alcoholic in the lingering bitter-sweet finish. fromred2green (140), , Ohio, USA Jul 18, 2009 Bottle, compliments of a friend (not on ratebeer, otherwise i’d credit his username) I found this beer to be very unique compared to everything I’d tried to that point. Does not taste like 9.6% ABV at all. Light malts are present in this brew, which satisfies in every imaginable way.
