A very hot aroma of sour oaky scotch and residual sugars. Surprisingly bright yellow in color. Uncanny cheap whiskey flavor – overwhelming, almost suffocating alcohol and sweetness. Hints of lager yeast, honey, and distant pepper. Disconcertingly strange with a synthetic, unconvincing tone.

33 cL bottle. Pours golden with almost no head. Fruity apple aroma. Mouthfeel is oily, round and thick. Taste is corn and fruit. Has alcohol-metalic aftertaste. Finish is short and fruity-sour. Fruity barley wine.

Bottle: Golden coloured, big fluffy white head, slowly diminishing; aroma of sweet wine, bisquits, dried fruit and hops; robust bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied; warming sweet-bitter (bisquity, malty) finish with a brandy-like touch. A solid, good and well quaffable Bock......

Clear golden pour with a huge head and active streamers of carbonation. Fruity and malty aroma with a hint of bubblegum. Full-bodied. Lots of booze, especially towards the finish. Malty throughout, but enough grainy hops to make it interesting. Needs to simmer down a bit. Kind of harsh but tasty.

Bottled (vintage 2000). Hazy amber coloured with a small head. Kinda bready with notes of malt, alcohol, caramel, dark fruit, wood and berries. Yum!

Golden color with very small diminishing head. Nice sweet aroma. Flavor is quite strong, malty with some caramel. Alcohol is evident, but still drinkable

Pours a clear golden-copper color; much paler than expected for a dopplebock. Produces a paper-thin off white head which fades immediately to just a few small smears of foam. Aroma is dominated here a bit too strongly by the alcohol with fainter notes of ripe pear, apple, apricot, banana, spice and light malts struggling to make their presence known. Overall the aroma is clean and sweet. Mouthfeel reveals a smooth, slightly oily and sticky texture with a pleasant, fine carbonation. Flavor profile starts out quite sweet and fruity with notes of honey, pear, green apple, caramel candy and a Grape-Nut cereal maltiness. This initial sweetness is quickly interupted by a moderately hot alcohol blast followed immediately by a somewhat surprising hefty hop bitterness. Would have preferred a slightly sweeter finish on this one. The hoppy bitter finish seemed a bit harsh and heavy-handed; kind of unusual for the style. In summary a decent Dopplebock, but not very interesting or complex. Wouldn’t go out of my way for another one.
