FrankJohansen (3329), Sabro, Denmark Oct 19, 2006 Bottle. Golden colour with a nice mostly lasting creamy white head. Rich aroma and taste of malts. Impressive mouthfeel. Good beer. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Oct 18, 2006 Bottle purchased from Lubiere. Pours med. golden colour with a smallish white head. Sweet nose of pear and other pome fruit, sl. caramel. Fairly full mouth-feel, moderate carbonation, smooth. Bitterness lingers a bit at the end. Sweet, malty, a bit vinous(?). Alcohol comes through a little, but not 9.6%-worth. JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 27, 2006 12oz bottle: Crystal clear, medium yellow color with small white head. Aroma is lager-like, touch of sulphur, bit of caramel, faint diacetyl. Flavor is slightly malty, sharp, fair amount of caramel and kilned malts, slightly acidic. Finish is moderately sweet. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Sep 25, 2006 (06.29.06) 11.2 oz brown bottle as gift from Tom D. 9.6% ABV. 21 degrees Plato. Poured hazy deep golden yellow with small white head. Soft carbonation. Toasted malt aroma. Full-bodied bock with moderate malt sweetness with pronounced toasted/bisquit flavor, almost mead-like in character. Finished with light malt fade. Not much hop presence. Smooth and rich tasting. A very enjoyable bock beer. kimcgolf (824), Dacula, Georgia, USA Sep 24, 2006 Poured to a golden color with hints of orange, nice thick whitish head thaat reduced to good lacing. Aroma was a mix of malty sweetness and hoppy fruits. Taste was an extension of this mix, and at mid-glass, the alcohol become just noticeable enough in both the aroma and taste to fit in perfectly. A long, smooth, tasty finish topped the whole thing off. This was really a good beer, and I will no doubt have more Urbock 23. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Sep 20, 2006 Bottle. Color is amber with medium head with short duration. Aroma is sweet malt. Taste is sweet and malty, finish with some spiceiness, alcohol and more sweet malt flavors. DTB (51), South Philly, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 15, 2006 This beer poured a clear golden amber with a thick off white head that was sustained by a flood of bubbles from the bottom of my glass. The head was so well sustained, it stayed around until the end leaving behind dense clumps of lace.
Smelled fantastic with green grapes, marshmallow and dark caramel with a pervasive sour undertone.
Tasted of cool green grapes and peaches with a slightly smoky molasses malt that lasted surprisingly long, but then collapsed into a dirty dry juniper finish. Very impressive delayed dynamics.
The mouth feel was smooth, thick and creamy with a medium to thick body and a light playful carbonation.
Highly recommended.
allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Sep 13, 2006 Draft at the Saloon, Washington, D.C. Poured golden, with a rocky white head. Surprisingly little aroma, but the flavor was sweet and malty with notes of grapes. Sticky, thick mouthfeel, and a smooth, alcohol-laden finish.
